Comments about Motorcraft Original Equipment Finewire Single Platinum Spark Plug:

I was told these were the best plug for these motors. (ford 4.0L) slap the person profusely if anyone tells you that!! I put these in after gapping with feeler gauges to .054", had ever so slight better idle. since I had 156k on motor I thought I had a different problem, so went to site that showed how to test maf, idle cylinoid, coil pack, egr valve and solenoid , dpfe valve, and all checked out good. hmm what next? I had some old iridium tipped plugs for this vehicle, installed and took for a test drive and wow, these old used up plugs produced throw your head back power over these brand new plugs. still wasn't idling as smooth as I like but will buy ac delco iridium tips or ngk iridium tips to install and will last a lot longer. another post on web I found is for aircraft plugs. their ohms new are to be 4-5k. used plugs range over 5k to less than 7k. anything over 7k is to be taken out of service. as well as anything under 2k is bad. i had a brand new motorcraft fine wire plug with 12k ohms!!! this old explorer aint a airplane but why put something you know isn't right, that you bought new in your vehicle?

Comments about Motorcraft Original Equipment Finewire Single Platinum Spark Plug:

Installed into a 4.0 Explorer. No initial issues. After 6 months time and 5392 miles a dead miss started in Cyl 3. Everything was tested EXCEPT for the plug. Afte all else.. Tested the plug. Resistance was good. Moved it to another cylinder and the miss moved with it. Okay.. One bad plug. To be sure ONE new plug was installed and the car driven 2 more weeks. Now the same dead miss has shown up in yet another cylinder. One bad plug might be a coincidence but two? Replaced all of these plugs and and after one month of driving the gas mileage has went up .5 per gal.. Probably due to the misfires.. Also.. This all started with the car running rough at start up but ran fine after 10 seconds or so. The dead miss started shortly after. That has all went away with the new plugs

Motorcraft finewire plats are the best you can buy for your OHV Explorer. They last a very long time. Add a tiny dab of antisieze on the threads and torque them to specification. Be careful when gapping them, never press against the finewire! They are usually close to spec.

                    A:

Normally, the expected life is 60,000 to 80,000 miles on an unaltered motor. If installed to a regular engine they would likely last longer than most people keep their car (barring any motor problems that can cause premature plug death). But, these usually come in heat ranges too cold for an unaltered motor and are usually used in racing applications where all bets are off.

This is Part No. SP486: Motorcraft Original Equipment Finewire Single Platinum Spark Plug

This is presented as original equipment for my 1994 Ford Explorer, however my 94 Owner's Manual specifies Motorcraft AWSF-42PP.

Please explain the discrepancy. I definitely want to use Ford's specified spark plugs in order to exactly match the ignition system requirements.
