The product came in a Moog box, not a "National" box. I was pleased about that since Moog is a good name in suspension parts. Getting the old bearings off was a pain. On a 2003 Tahoe with 4WD we could not use a hub puller to remove the hubs. The tools needed were a 3lb maul, a durable chisel and lots of WD40. You basically have to bang the heck out of the thing to get it off. This is what takes the longest. It took two of us over an hour of intense and unrelenting banging on it. PERSISTENCE IS KEY. We destroyed the dust plate (a flimsy metal plate). I suggest that you purchase replacements for these as well if you really want to do the job right.
Once the hub assembly is off, you need to take a sander to the inner hub and clean it really well. Doing this manually is possible, but would take hours. it's worth renting or borrowing a die sander. Once things were cleaned up we greased the hub reciever (the part we just cleaned with the die sander). Subsequently, the new hub/bearing assembly installed easily. We reassembled the rest, test drove and all is well.

Tips:
#1) if you don't already have one, it's good to use the large metric impact socket loaner set to remove the center hub bolt. (36 mm metric). The Chevy Repair manual suggests that this hub bolt and washer need to be replaced once it's removed. If you have an impact wrench to remove, great, if not rent/borrow one or make sure you have a large and sturdy breaker bar to take the center nut loose. We had an air impact.

#2 There are two bolts that hold the brake hose on. One on the brake caliper and one on the steering knuckle. Don't try to remove the brake hose retainer bolt from the steering knucle (10mm metric). It's not necessary and you'll just twist the head off anyway... creating a new problem to solve.

#3 Torque everything to spec. Especially the center hub bolt and the wheel lug nuts. (else you'll end up needing new brakes and rotors in a few 1000 miles)

#4 Safety glasses are a must for the chisel & hammer portion of this job.

I ordered a MOOG and received a National from [*]. If it had been from [*] I would have cancelled the order. I've been burned by cheep parts from [*] in the past. Other web sites were honest enough to tell you that you may get a National rather than a Moog. Advance did not do this and I felt as if it were bate and switch! The store did their best to make me happy, but did not follow through with a phone call to let me know that they received a Moog hub. Advance also wanted $40.00 for a spindle nut for this hub, a [$] item, made in the USA, else where!

Comments about MOOG Hub Assemblies Front Wheel Hub Assembly:

I replaced my passenger side hub assembly with this part a few months back. I was amazed at how good this assembly looked and fit. Especially the sensor wire. The write routed exactly like the original and fit into all the same anchoring points. It was so way to install. So when it came time to replace the driver side I made it a point to review my purchase records and make sure I got the same part for this side. I also was very pleased that it was a Moog part which I always had good experience with. I ordered this online for store pick up and was able to use a speed perks reward (Great program). It was ready when I went to pick it up-no waiting!

A very nice replacement unit for the original with 148,700 miles on it. I expect the same or better longevity from this new one. Moog has a great reputation.

Hi DW, since you don't mention the specific vehicle, it's hard to say for sure. To give you the correct information I would need the year, make, model and engine size of the vehicle.

          Answered on 10/18/2014 by Solomon
        • A:

If you are purchasing this part, then the vehicle is a 1/2 ton front suspension (independent front suspension) so the answer is no. I am currently replacing both of the front bearings of mine and doing one at a time. Driveability is not affected and an alignment is not required between install of each side. They do not come out easy! Best of luck and make sure you have a slide hammer available.

Hi Mac, glad to assist you! This is an exact fit for your vehicle. It comes with lugs and seals.

Answered on 8/14/2014 by Vincent from AAP
        • A:

Lugs = yes 6 lugs . Seals? These are sealed bearing units for 4 x 4. Newer model GM have independent front suspensions and there are no "seals". If your 1500LS is 2 wheel drive this part is not for you. Older GM front axles had straight axle tubes and seals, this part would not fit those designs either.

        • CUSTOMER CARE

          A:

Hi JR from Florida, happy to help you! A grinding noise in the wheel can be caused by various reasons such as worn brake pads, a defective wheel bearing or worn shocks. I would suggest you to take your vehicle and get it thoroughly checked by a certified mechanic before buying any parts that may/may not solve the problem.
