changed out both joints in rear driveshaft due to vibrations when letting off throttle. vibes went away for about 50 miles. removed both joints the following weekend, and replaced with the same. vibes went away for 50 miles. these ujoints are garbage; hard to properly grease b/c they dont have a real grease fitting. i will be removing this second set and installing real, greaseable ujoints.

MOOG Part number 270

Pros

  • Fit Was Ok On A 1995 F150

Cons

  • Zerc Fitting Is Worthless

Best Uses

Comments about MOOG Driveline Products U Joint:

The Zerc fitting is located on a bearing end cap rather than on the body cross axis. The zerc fitting is short because of this and impossible to use with a grease gun if the clip is installed. MOOG includes a special clip that is to be used on this bearing cap. Regardless I still can't grease the joint with the clip installed. The thread on the zerc may not be a standard thread so don't know if I can replace it with a standard zerc. MOOG uses this fitting to prevent it being whacked off.

      Moog 270 U-Joint Quality issues

Comments about MOOG Driveline Products U Joint:

Moog parts were made in Mexico and suffered from poor quality control. Purchased 2 Moog 270 high performance U-Joints to replace original Ford Units after 248K miles. Went through 4 Moog U-Joints to get 2 that worked. One didn't have the grease thread tapped, the other had a bearing cap that was undersized, and had an extra needle bearing in the cap. The final 2 that were good, fit well and installed easily.

Comments about MOOG Driveline Products U Joint:

Put these in a 2005 Tacoma. Hardest u joints to get in I have ever installed. Used a heavy C bearing press and had to use a socket on a 25 inch pull handle to get enough torque to press them in. Needle bearings will drop down in a heartbeat. I'll see how they last but a pain to install.

It works for my replacement on my '88 f150. I needed them quickly and advance helped me out. Seeing as I'm a mechanic they were easy to install and are what I needed. My wife picked them up for me and they were very helpful in making sure she knew what she needed to get.

Comments about MOOG Driveline Products U Joint:

This is a good joint but the pressure type zerk is not a great idea. I can't really get a good seal with the needle fitting. Having trouble finding a replacement zerk because the 10-32 thread size Moog used is not common.

This fitting fit my application (front of propeller shaft on a 84 F250 XL), however I wish I would have been able to pick one up with a standard grease fitting and not the needle-type that this one has. Still good, but something to keep in mind.

            Don't Fit

            By

            from N.E.

Comments about MOOG Driveline Products U Joint:

2009 Tacoma. If I could select 0 stars I would. These do not fit. One side went together but is so tight that it hardly moves. The other side will not go together at all. Putting the second side in and put one clip in and it will not move enough to be able to put the other clip in. The grease fitting is not the standard zerk fitting and the original is too big to fit on. Terrible, do not buy! I hope Advance and/or Moog takes care of me.
