My rear airbags went, as well as the air line. I has a neighbor replace them with the coil springs (didn't want to worry about this happening again, neither spending all that money for new airbags). I knew of this because this happened to an old Lincoln I had. Now, my car rides so smooth, feels better than before and the back is really raised. Everyone notices it. On top of the great results, I saved 15% off the price AND got a $25 coupon to use towards my next purchase at Advance Auto Parts in the email. Thanks to AAP and my neighbor.

The spring conversion kit was greatest thing I ever did . The air ride was going to cost me well over 2000.00 and the springs cost me 99.00 and I get a better ride than I had before . I put the springs in myself in about 45 minutes total and Im not a mechanic. If you can install a set of break pads you can do this with ease. [...]

Comments about MOOG Coil Springs: Variable Rate:

These Springs are a good economical and quality replacement for the OEM Air Springs on Lincoln Mercury vehicles. I was skepticle about the ride quality but decided to go with the CC-865 MOOGs and a set of Gabriel OEM replacement shocks for [$] rather than spending $360 on a compressor and Air Springs from Arnott or Suncore plus $300 labor to install them. This is an economical and comfortable solution to spending three times as much on maintaining the OEM Air Suspension. Worth the $260 in parts and labor and a permanent fix. Would reccommend to anyone who likes Lincoln quality without the Lincoln price.

This Moog Coil Springs: Variable Rate -part# CC865 is designed as a direct fit for your vehicle. These springs are ideal upgrades for vehicles that carry heavy loads. They are variable rate springs that change resistance as they compress, and they become progressively stiffer as the load increases. Do these come with the Moog insulators in the box? And, do the insulators serve as the mounts or are the mounts a separate item?

On a 1997 Lincoln Towncar, I am replacing the airbags with coils. Do I need to purchase an additional conversion kit or do these coils fit properly the way ther are by just popping out the airbag and popping in the coils? Thank you.

            • A:

You need no conversion kit. All that is needed is to get the spring bushings/mounts. Otherwise, if you do not want 'check air ride' to come on you will need to do the following:

They are direct replacements many people don't know but this is what you get in the kits. they just charge you more money for the same springs. Grand Marquise, and Crown Vics use the same springs. and you can do a search on the net to learn how to disable the "Check suspension light" on the dash.

These coils will restore the TC to it's original ride height. There is no clearance issues once the the coils are installed and I used Gabriel OEM replacements. There is instructions on Arnott and Suncore's websites that have instructions in a pdf file that tells you how to disable the light once your car is converted to coil springs.
