MOOG Problem Solver products incorporate proven design and engineering features to ensure like new steering, ease of installation and longer life. MOOG is the preferred steering and suspension parts brand of professional technicians and NASCAR Crew Chiefs.

Product Features:
  • Problem Solver® powdered metal gusher bearing design enables grease to flow through the bearing to the stud for reduced friction and enhanced strength and stability.
  • Problem Solver® patented cover plate design allows for tighter tolerances vs traditional cover plate designs, providing a more durable and extended life part.
  • Exclusive cover plate protects against contaminants leaking into the bearing surface.
  • MOOG® engineered steel composition results in a stronger component. Full ball metal stud provides 360 degrees of smooth, consistent, rotational movement resulting in more responsive steering.
  • An enlarged ball joint receptacle in the lower control arm can cause a loose ball joint fit. MOOG® Problem Solver® design includes an oversized housing for a more secure fit.
  • Greaseable socket design allows new lubricant to flush contaminants from the assembly, reducing corrosion and wear.

Bought for my 2002 2wd Ford Ranger. The joint itself appears to be of the excellent quality that I expected out of Moog. I just installed the joint last week so it is still too early to comment on longevity.

The reason I gave it three stars and not five is the grease fitting. The holes for the grease fittings in these joints are not tapped. This means you must rely on the grease fitting to self tap as you screw it in. This ended up being a huge headache for me. I could no get the fitting to start the threads straight and ended up having to go back to Advance and swap parts to give it another try. Luckily Advance has good customer service. Bottom line is this is a great replacement part, but be very very very careful screwing in the grease fitting and make sure it is perfectly straight with the hole. I wish Moog would have just spent the extra couple cents and threaded the hole.

Be sure to try and screw the grease fitting in BEFORE you install on the vehicle. This way you won't have to press it back out when the fitting cross threads and you need to exchange the part.

    Comments about MOOG Ball Joint:

The part was a ball joint with a grease fitting. I wanted to be able to grease the joint for longer life. It did come with instructions that showed it to be the newer style. The boot on this new style is almost non existent, a good thing in my opinion. It cant deteriorate if its not there. It is actually there just a whole lot smaller than the original style. the zirk fitting for the grease gun screwed in easily and straight. It was a little difficult to see the "mount inboard" stamped on the rubber boot. Hence the 4 star rating. The parts counter guy did not know what "mount inboard" meant.

              Comments about MOOG Ball Joint:

I found a busted joint while changing the oil so I went ahead and changed both left and right. Install was a snap and the grease fitting is a great way to keep the joints lubed. Should last a lifetime. I did have a little bit of trouble putting the grease fittings on at first. I had to use a pair of pliers and force twist them on. I've also had a little bit of grease come out of the joint but I added grease just before and after installing so this is probably why. Overall great replacement for the Ranger.

Will these replace the original joints, on an original arm? I've read the original joints, were an integral part
with the original A on a '98 Ranger.
