MOOG Problem Solver products incorporate proven design and engineering features to ensure like new steering, ease of installation and longer life. MOOG is the preferred steering and suspension parts brand of professional technicians and NASCAR Crew Chiefs.

Product Features:
  • Problem Solver® powdered metal gusher bearing design enables grease to flow through the bearing to the stud for reduced friction and enhanced strength and stability.
  • Problem Solver® patented cover plate design allows for tighter tolerances vs traditional cover plate designs, providing a more durable and extended life part.
  • Exclusive cover plate protects against contaminants leaking into the bearing surface.
  • MOOG® engineered steel composition results in a stronger component. Full ball metal stud provides 360 degrees of smooth, consistent, rotational movement resulting in more responsive steering.
  • An enlarged ball joint receptacle in the lower control arm can cause a loose ball joint fit. MOOG® Problem Solver® design includes an oversized housing for a more secure fit.
  • Greaseable socket design allows new lubricant to flush contaminants from the assembly, reducing corrosion and wear.

I purchased two Moog ball joints for my 2001 Ford F-150. The looked more heavy duity than stock so I was pleased at this point. Upon installing I had issues with the greese fitting. The first had threads too long preventing it from tightining flush with the ball joint. Then when I inspected the second I discovered that the ball joint had no threading at all. I returned both to my local store for a refund.

      Comments about MOOG Ball Joint:

After fighting with getting the boot to go on to the Driveworks part for 2 hours, I gave up and got the Moog parts. The store adviser asked me why I didn't get them in the first place. :)

The dust boot is integrated into the part so the store photo looks like it needs to be updated. The new design Problem Solver line (which is what I ended up with) almost looks like it has no boot at all; because it is nearly flush with the steel casing of the ball joint mount. It pressed in easily as it should with a ball joint tool.

**Observe the note and arrow indicator on the dust boot of the ball joint to install inboard (towards the engine).

Purchased 2 of these ball joints and installed. Seemed to be pretty simple. a tough project but managed to get it done. rented the tool from adavanced and it worked great. Took my vehicle back for state inspection and they commented that i didnt put on the "boot" didnt realize this was a requirement since they were not included in either box. so now i need to do the project over again. not thrilled!

              Comments about MOOG Ball Joint:

I don't know about the Moog music manufacturer, but Moog auto parts are nascar cool. Moog has front end suspension parts that are better then the ford oem. Thanks to aap for the tools... The ball joint press was key to the install. The ball joint fork made it easy to remove old parts. I replaced the lower ball joints, then came back later for the upper arms. I thought I would spend $800.00 on the front end of my 2002 ford. I was able to do the job myself, saved a lot... So I got a new floor jack and stands. Next up tie rods and shocks. The guys at my aap store are car guys... They know and share great tips and info about parts and the work they have done to their cars or trucks.
I almost forgot how much fun it is to get under the truck and get things fixed.

Recently, I replaced all the OEM parts containing rubber with Moog parts in the front suspension of my 1997 F150 4x4 and wow…it's like driving a new truck!

                      A:

I'm happy to help, Al's Old School Customs! Not knowing the history of your 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac 2 wheel drive, it's possible that the ball joint has been replaced before (if you are not the first owner of the vehicle) and had to be replaced with the oversized ball joint. If the diameter of the ball joint hole is 1.773 in., then even the oversized ball joint may not fit properly.

There is an oversized ball joint available for this vehicle as MOOG Part No. K8695T006 which will fit in a hole with a diameter of 1.749 in. to 1.753 in. To help ease your installation, I suggest putting the new ball joints in the freezer before installation. For additional installation instructions I suggest a repair manual for your vehicle, Haynes Part No. 36024.

                      A:

I'm happy to help, Sxlvr! This MOOG Ball Joint (Part No. K8695T) is designed as the standard replacement for the lower ball joint for your 1995-2005 Ford, Lincoln or Mazda truck and I don't foresee any fitment issues. A great way to make sure that the ball joint seats properly is to freeze the ball joint before installation to contract the metal for easier installation into the control arm. For a ball joint that will fit into the oversized hole better MOOG Part No. K8695T006 will fit in control arms with a 1.749in. to 1.753 in. inner diameter.

Great question, ChrisFix! It has to do with what style front suspension is on the vehicle. K8771T is for a model with front coil springs and K8695T is for a front torsion bar spring model. Also, K8771T is not applicable for the 4x4 model, it is only applicable with the RWD.
