First, let me say that I'm not someone who does alot with their car. Change the oil, filters and spark plugs is about all I do on my 2008 Cobalt. But I noticed my handling was going and my tire would chirp taking a turn in town. At 110k miles (25k/year) I needed to do something. I asked some people and they all recommended the monroe quick-strut assembly.

Wow! This was easy. Six bolts per side and the job was done. Save yourself some coin and do it yourself. I saved $300 by installing these assemblies. And that includes the alignment.

I noticed after the installation that the front of my car seemed to sit up just a bit. I was told by some 'wrenchers' to drive it for a few hundred miles and then get the alignment so that the springs can settle.

The car now drives like a dream, no tire chirp, or sloppy handling. Woo-hoo!

Just make sure you have the right tools before you start and have some good penetrating oil to loosen up those tight and rusty bolts!

Simplest set of struts to install springs are already preloaded so no problems with that. Simply jack up, let wheel extend all the way then support with a jack or something, loosen all the bolts remove and replace. Took half an hour per side.

Terrific value!! GM originals would have cost over $700.00 installed!! I own some basic pneumatic tools and a couple of floor jacks and in less than 2 hours the job was done!! Having these pre-loaded saved me all associated anxiety of compressing, removing, and reinstalling suspension springs as well as finding the appropriate compressing tools. Directions were almost complete. It would have been nice to include torque requirements for all hardware items. Overall a very satisfying project!!

Replaced OEM strut assemblies at 108000 miles. Eliminated all the squeaks and rattles that are prone to come with aging struts. Of course it stiffened up the ride, but it's what you should expect after 108000 miles. This install made freeway offramps a whole lot more fun! Increased handling of high speed curves.
