Q:what happen when you hit a bump and they bottom out
A:I'm happy to help, Bob! A brand new strut should be able to handle most bumps without much issue. They should not bottom out. Their job is to dampen the shock from bumps and keep the vehicle's tires in contact with the road. If you hit a large pothole or large dip or bump that actually causes your new strut to bottom out hard it could cause damage to the internal valves in the strut and cause leaking and strut failure.
Q:Any special tools needed and do you need to replace both sides or can you just install 1 side?
A:This Monroe Quick-Strut Complete Strut Assembly (Part# 171937) is only for front right side and it does not require any special tools to install. For compatibility of this part, please provide your vehicle year, make, model and engine specification. For any further assistance, please visit your nearest Advance Auto store or call us directly at 1-877-ADVANCE (238-2623) and one of our representatives there would be more than happy to assist you.
Q:Does the same strut fit the right and left side?
A:In order to check the exact fit application, please provide the year, make, model and engine size of the vehicle.
A:everything fits, but the jounce bumper and upper strut mount is not functioning properly. so after installation if you hit a small bump youll hear like metal to metal. even you tighten strut shaft to upper mount. its a waste of time to install and re-install.
Q:How easy to replace front strut/spring package, any special tools, and what else (bushing,bearing...)comes with it?
A:Well this all depends on the skill level of whoever is removing or replacing the part. Some may have a harder time than others who have experience. I would recommend purchasing a Haynes repair manual specifically for your vehicle. This should be able to assist you further into detail on how to repair or replace specific parts.
