WOW that was easy!

Easy to install. The entire assembly makes the job simple. No need to worry about the springs. Well worth the price. Replaced both sides in a few hours.

I purchased these because they were an all-in-one option that was quick, and it was. Unfortunately, the coil springs do not support the weight of the mini-van, so they sag. The sagging causes uneven tire wear which costs a lot of money to replace tires AND struts again. Bottom line, don't buy this junk, there should be a class action law suit. Now I have to buy struts and tires all over again at less than 30k with tires that could have lasted another 50k.

Still made clunking noise...

By

About Me Mechanic

Comments about Monroe Quick-Strut Complete Strut Assembly:

I need new parts to be good parts all the time. I need dependability. That's why I ordered the better option, not the economy version (read those reviews!). Anyways, I installed the new "quick-strut" and still had the clunking noise from a bad mount. The people at the AAP store were happy to warranty it out though.

To be fair, I've used these many times before. Failure is not common. I'm just peeved.

Easy to install but they're junk

Pros

  • Easy To Install

Cons

  • Boots Shredded Themselves
  • Lasted Less Than 2 Years

Best Uses

  • Everyday Driving

Comments about Monroe Quick-Strut Complete Strut Assembly:

The boots shredded themselves within months -- I've never seen anything like it. Within two years and less than 30K miles, the struts were completely shot. They were covered with oil and provided no damping at all. You definitely save time buying the complete assembly, but in the long run it will cost you more time because you'll have to do the job again soon. A good idea, poorly executed. The struts are junk!

Comments about Monroe Quick-Strut Complete Strut Assembly:

This complete unit is a great value. You get the strut, spring, and strut mount for less than what it would cost separately. As a mechanic doing the job at home and not having a spring compressor. This was a great product to buy, and easier to install. If you are buying this for someone to install for you, this is the way to go. I wish the complete unit was available for my Subaru.

These new all in one struts were a perfect fit and beyond easy to install. No messing with springs, clamps, etc. Changed the strut in less than 20 minutes. High quality part and made the van handle and drive like new even though its almost 10 years old. Best thing to do is spray all the bolts the night before with penetrating oil and they come off like a dream. Definitely worth the few extra bucks for the entire assembly and the lifetime warranty! Would absolutely do this again with this all in one strut assembly!

Do use replacement units like this. I went on the cheap 3 yrs ago and replaced just the shock portion of the unit, using the old spring. Well the spring broke at 130kmiles. Also it was very dangerous replacing the spring - never again will I do it . It was 1/2 the cost but 2x the work, dangerous & not as good. I have since used Monroe Quick-strut units on 3 cars - very happy.

I am using the second set of shock since the first ones last about 3 months then they start leaking. The second set that is install now from a confortable riding became stiff and hard like a sport car. The concept is good but prepare yourself to change them every 4 months or so on.

I'm happy to help, Jerry! If you are referring to the images of the products, they are only representative images. Monroe also indicates in their catalog that these are both an exact fit for your 2004 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.8L V6.

Typically the strut is the difference between the Econo-Matic and the Quick-Strut. The former using the Monro-Matic Plus and the latter using the Sensa-Trac.
