Comments about Monroe Quick-Strut Complete Strut Assembly:

I was not sure if I would be able to do this, but thought I would try to save some money by doing it myself. Rear spring on 2002 Explorer was broken, so I decided to replace both of the rear struts. The tools that I used include: a jack, 3 ton jack stand, 13mm ratchet wrench, 15mm ratchet wrench, 15mm socket, 16mm socket, 18mm socket, 21mm deep wall socket, air compressor (I used an 8 gallon 2.5 hp.), impact wrench (700 ft. lbs.), and a 24" or 36" pry bar (I used a 36" alignment pry bar which worked perfect). The first side took some time to prep and then install the new strut - it was a learning experience, but the 2nd side took an hour and a half from start to finish, which from what I understand falls within a normal time range for this project. The product is well worth the money and the removal / installation was not very difficult for me.

What a Timesaver!!!!! Also saver to use than having to compress springs and assemble yourself. Ford didn't leave much room to remove the upper bolts on the shocks. I'd say that was the hardest part of the changeout.

Comments about Monroe Quick-Strut Complete Strut Assembly:

We bought these online and picked them up at the store. My husband replaced one side that night and the other side the next day. The first one went smooth. The second one, we had a ton of problems with. After re-doing it several times, we took it back to the store. Come to find out, it was a defective part. Nothing is perfect and things happen, but it was a lot of stress and frustration! The store did right by us by returning the part and allowing us to purchase a new one at the same discounted price online.

If you do not know the 'secret' of installing this, it takes 5 hours! If you do, it takes an hour and a half. You must drop the lower suspension to get it in place and to get the old one out for that matter. An excellent replacement for the OEM springs that have shattered on so many vehicles. Thank goodness for this high quality replacement!!!!!

Easy to use. I did not need to use a spring compressor so it was easy to do at home. Some prying needed to get into place, but it was Ford's fault, not Monroe's. I'll buy this way again. Hope the spring lasts longer than Ford's spring.

I did one side with a compressor, and the other side without one. It's much easier without. Disconnect the lower controll arm from the sway bar and the hub, then pry it WAY down and you can get the fully extended strut in/out without a compressor, but JUST barely.

A coil spring compressor was required for my installation of the product, as you can't compress it enough yourself to get it onto the mount on the rear arm. It will make your life much easier during installation and they're not very expensive so I would recommend you get one.
