Monroe® OESpectrum® struts are engineered specifically for foreign nameplate vehicles and feature the latest global original equipment valving technologies. Developed through years of research and on-vehicle testing, Monroe® OESpectrum® units provide an unprecedented level of handling precision and control while filtering out the ride harshness commonly encountered on many foreign nameplate applications. This unique blend of control and comfort is made possible through Tenneco's 'Twin Technology™ Active Control System', an exclusive internal damping control technology first developed for leading global vehicle manufacturers. Tenneco's Twin Technology™ consists of its latest Impact Control Valve (ICV), which delivers exceptional control under virtually all driving conditions, and a patented Low Speed Tunability (LST) piston design that isolates impact-related noise, vibration and harshness.

Product Features:
  • All Weather Fluid: Contains special modifiers to reduce friction and ensure smooth rod reaction.
  • Rod Displaced Valving: Tuned specifically for each application, this valving automatically adjusts to road extremes to provide consistency and ride comfort.
  • Fluon Banded Piston: The fluon band provides consistent sealing between the piston and pressure tube which delivers better control and increased durability.
  • Twin Technology™: Impact Control Valve (ICV), delivers exceptional control under virtually all driving conditions, and patented Low Speed Tunability (LST) piston design that isolates impact-related noise, vibration and harshness.
  • Hardened and Chrome Plated Piston Rod: Long service life.
  • Nitrogen Gas Charged: For improved ride and handling, helps maintain tire to road contact by reducing aeration - on most applications
  • Unique Rod Guide and Single Lip Seal: Bronze reinforced rod guide bearing and special seal provides longer service life and consistent performance.
  • Special Dust Boot/Jounce Bumper: Protective dust boot reduces dirt and any moisture build-up. Jounce bumper helps prevent severe suspension movement. Dust boot & jounce bumper sold separately.

To Ron at AAP. I have asked the retrofit question to the parts counter man at Advanced and other suppliers. I have called the help line also. I have yet to be given a "this is what you have to do" answer. I don't want to buy shocks, get them half installed and find out that they won't work in my application. I won't buy Monroes either. The last pair I bought lasted one year. What good is a lifetime warranty when you have to replace the part annually?

      A:

I would recommend contacting Monroe at 1-734-384-7809 for complete verification on whether or not this strut will work properly and it directly for your vehicle. I would not want to install a product half way and find out it does not work either.

To Ron from AAP. It is an 89 Ford Probe with the selective ride option. I need a straight answer on using an aftermarket shock that does not include the adjustable ride feature. Thanks.

This strut is a direct replacement for your vehicle and is manufactured to meet or exceed OEM specifications. If the strut does bypass the ride control it will be specified within the description.

  • Q:

I need more detail about the how and why of the ride control bypass. Isn't there a direct replacement made for this option?
