Monroe® OESpectrum® struts are engineered specifically for foreign nameplate vehicles and feature the latest global original equipment valving technologies. Developed through years of research and on-vehicle testing, Monroe® OESpectrum® units provide an unprecedented level of handling precision and control while filtering out the ride harshness commonly encountered on many foreign nameplate applications. This unique blend of control and comfort is made possible through Tenneco's 'Twin Technology™ Active Control System', an exclusive internal damping control technology first developed for leading global vehicle manufacturers. Tenneco's Twin Technology™ consists of its latest Impact Control Valve (ICV), which delivers exceptional control under virtually all driving conditions, and a patented Low Speed Tunability (LST) piston design that isolates impact-related noise, vibration and harshness.

Product Features:
  • All Weather Fluid: Contains special modifiers to reduce friction and ensure smooth rod reaction.
  • Rod Displaced Valving: Tuned specifically for each application, this valving automatically adjusts to road extremes to provide consistency and ride comfort.
  • Fluon Banded Piston: The fluon band provides consistent sealing between the piston and pressure tube which delivers better control and increased durability.
  • Twin Technology™: Impact Control Valve (ICV), delivers exceptional control under virtually all driving conditions, and patented Low Speed Tunability (LST) piston design that isolates impact-related noise, vibration and harshness.
  • Hardened and Chrome Plated Piston Rod: Long service life.
  • Nitrogen Gas Charged: For improved ride and handling, helps maintain tire to road contact by reducing aeration - on most applications
  • Unique Rod Guide and Single Lip Seal: Bronze reinforced rod guide bearing and special seal provides longer service life and consistent performance.
  • Special Dust Boot/Jounce Bumper: Protective dust boot reduces dirt and any moisture build-up. Jounce bumper helps prevent severe suspension movement. Dust boot & jounce bumper sold separately.

I bought the Monroe struts and mounts that were previously listed on the site. Mounts did not fit the mounting hole pattern. NOTE: These have been removed from the site as a replacent.

          • Q:

For the 71327 Monroe strut rear replacement. Can this be done without boot kit?
If so will I need to also purchase a strut mounting kit 904979?
Also if it's just a light clanking in back. Can I replace only the rear and not the front?
I went to an auto shop and they recommended 4 new struts along w/ mounting kit.
            For a 2002 nissan maxima - strut -71461(1) strut 71462(1) & 71327. (2) & a strut mounting kit (2) 904979
            Thanks

              A:

I'm happy to help, Mike! I suggest utilizing the boot kit (Part No. 63631) with your 2002 Nissan Maxima strut replacement with Monroe Part No. 71327. This helps prevent contaminants from getting into the piston. It's also best to replace the mounting kit at the same time to ensure a complete job with Part No. 904979.

You also have the option of buying the entire strut assembly in 1 piece with Monroe Quick-Strut Part No. 171327 for the rear. This eliminates the need to disassemble the current strut and replaces the springs as well.

I'm sure that the shop is recommending all four struts because Monroe recommends strut replacement every 50,000 miles. Your front struts may not be making excess noise, but may not be functioning as well as they could be if they were replaced. If you are only going to replace one set, you will need to do both front or both rear, replacing only one strut will result in irregular handling.

There are Quick-Struts available for the front as well, Part No. 171461 for the front right and Part No. 171462 for the front left. This helps the home mechanic since you won't need to compress the spring and saves time. If you are going to do the installation yourself, I suggest a repair manual to provide you with torque specifications and vehicle specific instructions (Haynes Part No. 72021)
