Check Vehicle Fit

Monroe® OESpectrum® shock absorbers are engineered specifically for foreign nameplate vehicles and feature the latest global original equipment valving technologies. Developed through years of research and on-vehicle testing, Monroe® OESpectrum® units provide an unprecedented level of handling precision and control while filtering out the ride harshness commonly encountered on many foreign nameplate applications. This unique blend of control and comfort is made possible through Tenneco's 'Twin Technology™ Active Control System', an exclusive internal damping control technology first developed for leading global vehicle manufacturers. Tenneco's Twin Technology™ consists of its latest Impact Control Valve (ICV), which delivers exceptional control under virtually all driving conditions, and a patented Low Speed Tunability (LST) piston design that isolates impact-related noise, vibration and harshness.

Product Features:
  • All Weather Fluid: Contains special modifiers to reduce friction and ensure smooth rod reaction.
  • Full Displaced Valving: Tuned specifically for each application, this valving automatically adjusts to road extremes to provide consistency and ride
  • Fluon Banded Piston: The fluon band provides consistent sealing between the piston and pressure tube which delivers better control and increased durability.
  • Twin Technology™: Impact Control Valve (ICV), delivers exceptional control under virtually all driving conditions, and patented Low Speed Tunability (LST) piston design that isolates impact-related noise, vibration and harshness.
  • Nitrogen Gas Charged: For improved ride and handling, helps maintain tire to road contact by reducing aeration - on most applications
  • Special Seal: 'Self-lubricating' fluid seal designed to retain gas without excessive wear or friction.
  • 1-3/8 inch (34.9 mm) bore (On most applications)
  • 5/8-inch (15.9 mm) diameter piston rod (On most applications)

Comments about Monroe OESpectrum Light Truck Shock Absorber:

After 129k miles, the factory shocks on my 2001 Explorer Eddie Bauer with the 4.0 V6 and 4x4 were shot. These Monroe Sensa-Trac shocks seemed to be a good value so I bought them based on good reviews online. Installation was easy. I did have to drop the spare tire in order to make it easier to get at the top bolts to replace the rear shocks, but that was a good opportunity to check the spare for air pressure ( it was flat )and dry rot. Fit was perfect. Now the ride is like new. Went on a 500 mile trip after installation and stability is much improved at any speed on any terrain. I would highly recommend these shocks for anyone's "family truckster".

                  A:

I'm happy to help, Walatse! The Monroe Sensa-Trac Light Truck Shock Absorber (Part No. 37035) and Rancho RS5000 Series Shock (Part No. RS5185) are will both sides of your rear axle on your 1999 Ford Explorer XLT. These will fit both rear wheel drive and four wheel drive vehicles without automatic ride control.

For the front 4WD you will need Monroe Sensa-Trac Part No. 37122 or Rancho RS5000 Part No. RS5229. For RWD front shocks, Monroe Sensa-Trac Part No. 37177 or the same Rancho Part No. RS5229 will work for this vehicle.
