I needed to replace a leaking air shock on my 2004 Chevrolet Venture. Advance had exactly what I needed and it was a direct fit. The dealer wanted nearly [$] to replace a simple thing such as the shocks... I knew that the job was simple but was concerned about the air connection for the shock, not an issue as the Monroe shocks had the oem adapter.

I could not believe when I open the box and found out the metal bolt carrier on the top of one of the shocks was not push all the way through the rubber! I had to use a socket and a vice to push the metal "through bolt" the rest of the way through the rubber! It took two people and twenty minutes of our time to carefully push the metal the rest of the way through the rubber fitting! I should not have had to do any of this, but I guess Monroe's quality control has major problems! Time is money to a real mechanic and this cost me a lot of time and I lost twenty minutes of money for two people to do what Monroe should have done in the first place!

good shocks, error in description

Comments about Monroe Max-Air Air Shock Absorber:

There's a likely error in the product description. It reads:

"Packed in pairs that include air line, air fittings, and air fill kit."

Sure, these are great shocks; good value, but the package I have did NOT include the airline, fittings and kit. Checked with local AAP stores -- and they seemed confident that shocks like this don't come with the lines, fittings, etc. (though happy to sell me them separately)

When I told them the AAP web site for this product DOES indicate the inclusion of the lines, fitting kit, they didn't seem to care, nor could they apparently. (as their data base in the stories is apparently different from what we see on line)

So in case anybody at AAP.com, (not to mention customers who just might find themselves needing the tubing, fitting, etc.) now ya now the product description may not match what will you will find. (and as such, do check)

Comments about Monroe Max-Air Air Shock Absorber:

2000 Pontiac Montana air shocks were replaced in 2006 at 114K miles for $250 and in 2013 with 223K miles it was time to replace again. Thanks to Advance it was much cheaper than $250. Removal of the old shocks was easy, but the air hose was stuck and would not pull out. I used my rotary tool and a heavy duty cutoff wheel to slice through the nipple. I placed the nipple in a vice and used a nail set to remove the hose from behind. The new shocks were not perfect out of the box - I needed my rotary tool again to grind lots of metal before they would fit. Everything works well - vehicle passed state inspection.

I highly recommend these shocks. I had a little issue with the instal but it was an easy fix. Top shock mount on one shock had a steel bushing that didn't get pressed in all the way.I was able to adjust/bend the mount on the van with a crescent wrench to allow for larger than intended shock bushing. Then when I bolted it back together the bent mount realigned. The entire job took an 18 mm wrench, a crescent wrench. rubber mallet, pliers and 25 minutes.

Please keep in mind I would not mind going a couple inches higher than the vehicle currently sits. Also, what extra weight does these air shocks support?
