the strut rivals the original equipment there is much improved handling and to my surprise the braking was improved. No more rear lifting on hard braking.

            Comments about Monroe Gas-Matic Strut:

Here is the deal. I put Gabriel struts on a 99 Toyota Avalon 4 yrs ago and within 2k miles I started hearing popping sounds and the car was all over the road. I orignally thought it was the springs since the car was purchase used. After the second install it was definitely the struts same issue within 2k miles. Installed the Monroe product 2 weekends ago. I also put these on a 95 Avalon in October 2011. 10k later no issues.

Are any other parts needed, like a mounting kit or supplemental coils or springs?

Is it easy to install without any special tools?

                      A:

Yes, because removal, replacement and alignment of struts or shock absorbers can be labor intensive, it is a good idea to have the "bearing / mounting plate", and mounting bolts inspected along with other parts that are designed to protect the strut / shock such as the "jounce bumper" and "dust boot". You will need a spring compression tool to install this part. For any further assistance please feel free to call 1-877-238-2623 and one of our representatives will gladly assist you with any questions or concerns you may have.
