      Comments about Monroe Gas-Matic Strut:

This was my first strut replacement. It was difficult compressing the springs to install it and that was the hardest part. It helps to put the spring compressor on the right direction the first time. The strut installed easily with the help of my car manual to guide me to do it right. A small guide hole for the bottom rubber seat was left out by Monroe so I had to cut the nipple from the seat to fit it right. I like the ride after driving on struts that caused the front end to shake.

      Comments about Monroe Gas-Matic Strut:

I am not a mechanic by any means, but decided to save some money by installing my own new Monroe Gas-Matic struts on my 98 Camry. I struggled slightly with the installation, however I got it done. Now my Camry moves down the road smoothly and QUIETLY. The Monroe Gas-Matic stuts that I purchased looked well made and fit perfectly. I did not experience any issues with lining up the bolts. In addition, the enclosed brochure even provided the torque values for all bolting required to complete the job. Very happy with the struts!

            Comments about Monroe Gas-Matic Strut:

Was worried about purchasing a low cost product. The price of these struts were 20-50% other brands I considered. I have tried lower cost parts in the past and it has not worked out very well. The installation went very smoothly. The struts fit perfectly. I did the front struts first and after driving with them for 50 miles or so they smoothed out the ride somewhat. (toyota Camry 2001). I replaced the rear struts a week later. After another 20 miles of driving on them I really noticed the improvement in how the car was handling. The turning was a lot smother and the difference in the breaking power was very noticable.

              • Q:

I am looking at replacing the front struts on a 1997 Toyota Camry. I have a spring compressor, so I just wanted to confirm that if I get these struts for both sides, that I will not need anything further to complete the job. I see the strut mounting kits, but am not sure if I will need that too. Any help would be appreciated.

                  A:

I'm happy to help, Taylor! It's a good idea to install the Monroe Strut-Mate Strut Mounting Kit (Part No. 903906) on the left front strut and Strut-Mate Strut Mounting Kit (Part No. 903903) on the right front strut, the Strut-Mate Coil Spring Insulator (Part No. 904951) on both front struts and Strut-Mate Strut Coil Spring Seat & Coil Spring Insulator (Part No. 904950) on both front struts. If your springs have not been replaced recently, you may also want to replace those with MOOG Coil Spring Set (Part No. 9648)

For a quicker and easier install that may save you time and money, you may find that Monroe Econo-Matic Complete Strut Assembly (Part No. 181679) for the front left and Econo-Matic Complete Strut Assembly (Part No. 181678) for the front right are a great choice. A repair manual can make this job even easier by providing replacement procedures (Haynes Part No. 92007 or Chilton Part No. 68201).

                  A:

Along with this Monroe Gas-Matic Strut (Part No. 81678) you would also be needing Part No. 81679 for both Front Right and Front left respectively.
