I bought these for my 1998 Chevy 1500 4x4 with hopes of them handling off road use. They only lasted about 2000 miles until needing replaced. I would upgrade to something a little more heavy duty if going to use off road. For everyday driving on regular roads they give a nice ride. Monroe needs to start including new attaching hardware and these would be an even better buy.

            • Q:

I would like to purchase 4 Monroe shocks ( Item no. 59583 on the website ) for my 1994 Chevy 1/2 ton pick up, 4WD, 5.7 engine standard cab. I need these plus 2 more for the back or front , I cant tell if the item number I see on the website are front or back shocks. Can you guide me to find all 4 for my truck, I know the front ones are different than the back ones.
              Thank you,
              Tom

                A:

Hi Zedo, I am glad to help you with that! The part# 59583 is for rear and we have part# 59028 which is front while both are an ideal part for your Chevy 1/2 ton Pick up. You would need two of each shock absorber for replacing front and rear on your vehicle.

I have a 98 K1500 with the 5.7L, are all 4 shocks the same on that truck? and how would these work, handle and hold up or would there be a better option. the heaviest i pull with it is our 8 thousand pound camper, the furthest i pull it is about 3 hours away, and about 10 times a summer at the most. other wise its my winter 4x4 driving truck and the wifes grociery getter.

The Monroe® Gas-Magnum® truck shock absorber is designed for mid to full size, hard working pick-up trucks and vans. These units provide firm control without a harsh ride. With up to twice the fluid capacity of standard 1" bore shocks, Monroe Gas-Magnum truck shocks work more efficiently with less effort.

              • A:

No, overload shocks have a spring in place of the sleeve that covers the exposed rod. Advanced does carry them but they are listed as load adjusting shocks.
