Comments about Monroe Gas-Matic LT Shock Absorber:

Had these installed on my S10 with 43,000 miles on it and noticed a major difference in stability. Granted they do make create a stiff ride, however, when you are hauling a heave load, the extra security is nice to have. When I purchased these, I wasn't sure if they would do the trick. They did everything I wanted them to do.

Through online order, Advance Auto had the parts ready when I entered the store, provided friendly service and had me heckled out and headed home within a few minutes.
My project was a 2001 Olds Pravada that seemed to 'swim' down the road.
The shocks were rather easy to install and the improvement to the ride was quite noticeable.

Comments about Monroe Gas-Matic LT Shock Absorber:

You can't beat these for an inexpensive replacement shock. They're not nearly as firm as the factory shocks, so they provide a pretty comfortable ride at city speeds, even on cobblestone roads.
Highway driving is a different story though. On the smaller stuff they work great but they don't control wheel movement very well on larger pot holes or bigger bumps like where road construction is being done. I've noticed that the front end bounces a couple times before the shocks regain control of the movement. I don't do a whole lot of highway driving so for me it's no biggie. But for someone that does, you may want to purchase something different.

Comments about Monroe Gas-Matic LT Shock Absorber:

I was planning on going on a trip to Virginia, and had some time to check out the front shocks on my 1992 Chevy S10 Blazer. The shocks that had been on there looked like they had been on there for the past 20 years, and had ceased to function properly. Every bump was highly noticeable and there was a ton of nose-diving when breaking.
I installed these shocks in an afternoon, getting the old bolts free was the hardest part. These installed easily, and unlike the old shocks, actually took a little compressing to get into place, which is a great improvement.
The ride condition of the vehicle improved greatly and with the new shocks, the breaks on the vehicle can function properly. The vehicle can handle going around curves on the highway without any leaning, and it handles bumps better.
As far as anything that isn't good about these, I've not really noticed any problems. I went from shocks that probably had 118,000 miles on them to these. These shocks are doing exactly what I want them to.

Where does AAP catalog get their info from? Goto the Monroe.com, the manufacture and plug in 2000 olds bravada. Neither listing AAP has shows up on their catalog. AAP has the first two entry level parts listed incorrectly I believe. Could someone clarify this before my install?a

Great question, James! The part information is from an older product line that Monroe made. Monroe now makes the Monro-Matic Plus shocks Part No. 32194 for your 2000 Oldsmobile Bravada. This Monroe Gas-Matic LT Shock Absorber is also designed to fit your vehicle. Monroe consolidated the two Gas-Matic product lines for your vehicle to the Monro-Matic Plus line. I will make sure that we have this information updated on our website as necessary for this product line. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Both shocks and struts serve the same purpose, to dampen the vibrations of a mechanical system. The difference is that a strut is an integral part of the suspension whereas a shock is just an add-on damper.

Is the procedure for changing this shock absorber the same as for changing it on a 2WD? Or will I need different tools?
