I had previously picked up the wrong oil, so I jumped online to find Mobil 1 10W-40 for my Ducati. The prices were horrendous everywhere (way more than I would consider spending b/c prices shouldn't be this high), but Advanced Auto had a significantly lowered price, by more than 30% if I remember correctly. I made the order online, then dropped by the auto store (since they had it in stock). I had the oil changed within an hour of buying it online. I just really appreciate the ease of the online system, intuitive to use and quick.

Brock's performance spend thousands of hours and dollars testing oils in motorcycle engines and shown this Mobil 1 to cause problems with internal clutch parts. You can find test results online, apparently the formula for the Mobil 1 changed and from there is when the problems began. I won't go into detail but go online and search for mobil1 4t oil formula & Brock's testing. Parts of the clutch and engine were seizing up and welding together. Just want to help my fellow rider.

      Comments about Mobil1 Racing 4T 10W-40 4-Cycle Motorcycle Oil (1 Quart):

I use this product in a Kawasaki Concours C-14. This bike as a large 1,400 cc engine and can get hot. This oil makes it shift smoothly, but is pricey for how long it will stay in the engine. In my opinion, worth the cost. I bought online with a 30 minute store pickup because it was instock - or so it said. Got there and they only had 1 of 4 quarts instock. Apparently it was inventory day and Mgr Neil was more concerned with his inventory than my needs. I had to get the other 3 across town. He was rude to boot. Next time I'll start across town or someplace else.

Switched from Castrol to Mobil 1 this year (2015). The engine runs smooth and the gears shift smoothly. I will put around 4,000 miles on the oil this summer and make a final review.

              • Q:

Can I use this oil on my 2001 Yamaha Grizzly 600 ATV without having any problems? The MFR says that it needs to be hypoid type oil, does this qualify?
Asked on 7/21/2014 by ATV rider

                1 answer

                • CUSTOMER CARE

                  A:

I'm happy to help, ATV Rider! This oil will work in your 2001 Yamaha Grizzly 600 ATV. According to the Yamaha owner's manual 5W-30 is recommended for use below 0 and up to 30 degrees Fahrenheit, 10W-30 is recommended between 10 and 100 degrees Fahrenheit and 20W-40 between 40 and 120 degrees Fahrenheit. This oil would provide acceptable performance between 10 and 120 degrees Fahrenheit in your ATV.

I also see in the manual that the manufacturer recommends against using an "Energy Conserving" motor oil as the anti-friction additives would cause clutch and/or starter clutch slippage. This product will work for those application as it is designed to work in wet clutch applications.

In the manual I see that the hypoid type oil is for use in your final gear case and differential gear case. Those types of oils should be a "GL-4" and SAE80 gear oil.
