Comments about Mobil1 High Mileage 10W30 Fully Synthetic Motor Oil (5 Plus Quarts Jug):

Although more expensive than "regular oil" Mobil One lasts several thousand miles longer while providing the engine with a superior cost effective lube. I see no reason to use any other product in my vehicles and equipment.

There are 3 givens in life: death, taxes, and you get dirty when changing the oil in you vehicle. Having said that, I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado with 250,000 miles on it. Still runs great and has lots of moxie. No other oil goes in this baby.

My car burns a quart of oil in about 4000 miles would this product reduce the oil consumption?

                A:

Happy to help you with your question Gary! Oil does not have a active ingredient that slows or prevents consumtion. The engine will have an issue; the 3 main things to look at will be bad piston rings, a bad pcv valve, and bad valve seals. If you are getting that much oil consumption I suggest having a certified mechanic look at your vehicle to pin point the problem.

I'm happy to help, Gary! Mobil1 High Mileage 10W30 Fully Synthetic Motor Oil (Part No. 120848/113526) helps protect critical engine parts in high mileage engines, helps to reduce the sludge and deposits that conventional oils can leave behind and can help prevent leaks.

If the oil is evaporating or burning off due to high temperatures, then a synthetic oil can help. It provides lower volatility than conventional oils. A high mileage oil will also condition the seals to prevent leaks at the seals. You may also want to check and/or replace your PCV valve to help prevent oil loss.

I have a 2000 Mercury Cougar with a 2.5L. I am swapping the engine in it from a junkyard, the engine from the yard has 105,000, runs strong, I do not know much about the synthetic oil, what would you recommend and should I put a high milage oil in it.
Asked on 9/19/2014 by rocky from Houston, Tx

              • CUSTOMER CARE

                A:

I'm glad to assist, Rocky! This sure sounds like an extensive project and I certainly understand the desire to choose the best oil for this application. The 2000 Mercury Cougar 2.5L V6 was designed to use 5W-20 motor oil. Mobil1 offers two 5W-20 options, Mobil1 5W-20 Fully Synthetic Motor Oil (Part No. 112798/112975 for the 5+ quart jug and Part No. 103008/98HC95 for individual quarts). Mobil1 also offers Extended Performance oil for the 5W-20 which provides more protection for longer oil change intervals.

Synthetic oil is a great choice for any vehicle. Many new vehicles are getting synthetic oil with the factory fill and synthetic oils provide a longer life for the engine, longer service life of the oil and better fuel mileage. If your engine manufacturer allows for it, you can generally extend your oil change interval with synthetic oils. Some benefits are less time under the car changing the oil, less waste oil and lower cost per mile of driving.

The most common caution you will hear with synthetics with their use in older engines with higher miles. Generally, as long as the engine is in good operating condition, (no leaks and not burning oil) synthetic oil will not cause any problems. Some people find that if there were heavy build ups of sludge in the engine that were preventing leaks, after using a high quality synthetic, they develop a leak. This is due to the excellent detergent packages in synthetic oils cleaning up the engine.

I personally have used synthetic oil on all of my vehicles and I have never purchased a vehicle brand new. The lowest mileage vehicle I switched had 85,000 miles and the highest had 138,000. I have not have any leaks or engine problems from switching to a high quality synthetic oil. Your mileage may vary.

Last, a high mileage oil can provide additional peace of mind for older engines that there is concern of leaking at the seals. High mileage oils contain ingredients that will condition the seals as well as extra anti-wear and cleaning additives. Don't worry that there isn't a high mileage option available for your oil weight, both Mobil1 options in 5W-20 will provide excellent protection for your engine for years to come. Your Cougar should utilize 5.8 quarts of oil during an oil change along with an oil filter.

I was looking into the 10W-30 high mileage fully synthetic oil. However looking at the comments you are reffering someone to 5w-30. i currently have a 1994 Jeep Wrangler YJ with 128,000 miles on it, would this be the best oil that i should get?

              • CUSTOMER CARE

                A:

I'm happy to help, That kid down the street! Recommendations for motor oils should be based on the manufacturer's recommendations for that vehicle and engine. For instance, your 1994 Jeep Wrangler YJ has an oil recommendation of 20W-40 or 20W-50 if the climate it is driven in stays above 30* F. If the outdoor ambient temperature the vehicle will be operated in will reach down to 0* F, it is recommended to use 10W-40. And if the outdoor ambient temperature the vehicle is operated in is consistently below 60* F, 5W-30 is recommended.

Synthetics do protect better and if you are looking for an oil that will meet the requirements of your vehicle and have the fullest range of operating temperatures, Mobil1 High Mileage 10W-40 Fully Synthetic Motor Oil (Part No. 103536/98JD39) or a 5W-40 motor oil such as Pennzoil Ultra 5W-40 (Part No. 550022576) or Castrol Edge with Syntec 5W-40 (Part No. 06249)

                A:

For your 2008 Ford Expedition Limited with 87k miles I would recommend the Mobil1 5W-20 Fully Synthetic Motor Oil (5 Plus Quarts Jug) - Part No. 98KY23 over the Mobil1 10W30 Fully Synthetic High Mileage Motor Oil (5 Plus Quarts Jug) - Part No. 98LD61. For vehicles over 75000 miles the 5W20 is the ideal motor oil compared to the 10W30.
