Comments about Metra Electronics Power Antenna Replacement Mast:

Based my rating on the fact this is not as advertized. It may be an exact fit for the replacment Metro power antenna, probably works fine for that, but it doesn't fit the original equipment antenna in my 96 Camray at all. It is smaller dia. the nut won't even hold it in place.

Comments about Metra Electronics Power Antenna Replacement Mast:

There must be at least two variations of this antenna replacemnt as one has a straight 1/8" nylon shaft (which is on my LC) and the other has a saw-tooth 1/8" shaft (which I purchased). Directions also states that when pulled hard enough shaft will release; that didn't happen

Comments about Metra Electronics Power Antenna Replacement Mast:

After the mistake of leaving the previous antenna up through the car wash (may it Rest in Peace), I was assuming I was about to have to spend an arm and a leg to get it replaced. Found this replacement, and it was very simple to install. Literally, with the radio off, unscrew the old mounting nut (if that's what it's called) at the base of the broken antenna. Step 2: turn on the radio so the car tries to extend the antenna. The entire antenna extends/retracts by a nylon-type flexible material with teeth that will come all the way out of the vehicle with the mounting nut removed. Hint 1: pay attention to which direction the teeth are facing when it is coming out as it will make your installation of the replacement easier. Hint 2: Save your original mounting nut (which should be in fine condition)--the replacement mounting nut did not fit my vehicle, but my original fit around the new antenna perfectly. Step 3: Feed the nylyon material with the teeth into the now-vacant hole where the old antenna used to be until you feel it get down to the motor (the gears that grab the teeth). Turn off the radio (a second person here to operate the radio was extremely helpful) and the motor will start running and just keep maneuvering the nylon feeder until the teeth grab, and the antenna will then retract into the vehicle. Tighten the mounting nut, and you're done...just like new, and without breaking the bank. Took me 20 minutes to figure it out, but I'm sure I could do it in 5 minutes if I had to do it again. The only tool I used was a pair of pliers to grip the mounting nut to loosen and tighten it.

                    A:

For replacing this Metra Power Antenna Replacement Mast - part# 44-PWR22, determine where you will gain access to the antenna. Using a wrench or needle-nose pliers, loosen and remove the original retaining nut on the base of the antenna mast, which houses the antenna. Remove the mast. Gain access to the underside of the area where the antenna is located. Pull out the antenna coaxial cable, the thick wire that connects the antenna to the interior of the car. Unplug the coaxial cable from the extension coaxial cable, a second cable that completes the connection from the antenna to the radio. If the distance from the antenna mount to the radio is short, there may be no extension coaxial. In that case, unplug the coaxial from the antenna lead in the back of the radio. Remove the original antenna coaxial cable, noting the route the cable follows. Read the instructions that come with the new antenna. Inspect the fender area, where the antenna mast will be mounted, for rust. Clean the area before installing the new antenna. Plug the new antenna coaxial cable into the extension coaxial cable. Plug the new antenna's coaxial cable into the antenna lead of the radio, if there is no extension coaxial cable. Tie or tape the string you put on the extension cable to the new antenna coaxial cable. This step assures that the two cables will stay together as you route them to the antenna mount in the fender. Direct the new antenna cable through the route of the original antenna cable, on up to the hole in the fender in which the mast will be mounted. Insert the mast into the hole from above and screw it into the coaxial cable. Replace the retainer nut at the base of the antenna mast and tighten securely. Replace the panel that covers the antenna mount area.
