Comments about Lucas Oil Products TB Zinc-Plus Engine Break-In Oil Additive (16 oz.):

great and a must for todays oils without the zinc. since 1990' they have been reducing zinc and phosphorus in engines due to the newer engines with roller cams that do not require them so if you have a engine with a flat tappet camshaft do yourself a favor and extend the life of your engine with some of this stuff it will save your camshafts life

Been using this in my stock 69 302 DZ since the day I bought it. After 87k miles I decided on a complete engine rebuild due to valve guides. Upon disassembly my shop was quite surprised to see that my stock 30 - 30 cam was still in EXCELLENT condition. We put the "old" cam back in and after 5000 miles on the rebuild everything is OK. Just the sweet rattle of a solid cam !!!

adds zinc necessary to prevent wiped cam lobes / lifters in engines using flat tappet cams. A little pricey but no failures to date using this and valvoline VR-1 racing oil.

Hello Blove. This product is only for use on a newly assembled engine. It helps with the wear in (break in) process. We do not suggest you use this with non-rebuilt engine.

I read this additive is for race applications, and not for street use. What happens when his Lucas zinc additive is being used in an old street car of 1970. Can it harm the engine? I know some guys using this additive in oldtimers with normal engines, small blocks and not for racing.

Hi Ron, glad to serve you! Lucas Engine Break-In Oil Additive TB Zinc-Plus protects camshaft lifters and valve train during break-in period of motors. It is excellent for flat tappet camshafts during break-in or as an additive to any motor oil to prevent premature wear. It contains an exclusive blend of extreme pressure additives and is designed for race applications requiring additional extreme pressure additives. Dyno testing shows a more efficient break-in when used, resulting in less engine run time prior to race day. Add one bottle with every oil change to increase the zinc content of your motor oil. Not designed for passenger car use. For more information please visit this link. URL - http://lucasoil.com/products/engine-oil-additives/engine-break-in-oil-additive-tb-zinc-plus

How much TB-Zinc-Plus should be added to one quart of oil (without ZDDP) for topping off when engine is a quart low but not ready for an oil change? It is a 468 BBC with about 3000 miles on engine. For street use.

              A:

I'm happy to help, Ernie! The amount of Lucas Oil Products TB Zinc-Plus Engine Break-In Oil Additive (Part No. 10063) that you add will depend on the oil capacity of the engine and your preferred mix ratio. A chart with the mix ratios is available here: http://lucasoil.com/images/documents/Zinc_Values_MotorcycleOil.pdf.

This product is designed for race applications requiring additional extreme-pressure additives. It is not designed for passenger car use. Now that your engine is broken in, switching to a high quality synthetic motor oil with a high quality filter will provide you with excellent wear protection, increased efficiency and could also extend your oil change interval.

I'm happy to help, Turbo! Lucas Oil Products TB Zinc-Plus Engine Break-In Oil Additive is designed for race applications requiring additional extreme-pressure additives and is not designed for passenger car use. If you do not have any oil leaks in your 1987 Buick Grand National Turbo, I suggest using a high mileage synthetic motor oil which can provide additional protection to your high mileage engine. Mobil 1 10W-30 High Mileage Fully Synthetic Motor Oil (Part No. 103535/98JD37) is a great option.

If you are looking for a great conventional high mileage motor oil, Castrol GTX High Mileage Conventional Motor Oil (Part No. 06450), Valvoline MaxLife High Mileage Motor Oil (Part No. 797976/VV149), Pennzoil High Mileage Conventional Motor Oil (Part No. 160554) or Quaker State Defy High Mileage Motor Oil (Part No. 550024106) are all great options.

          • Q:

I have a 1970 freshly remanufactured 302ci motor that has flat tappets and a non-roller high torque cam. The engine manufacturer requires me to use a high zinc break-in engine oil additive that has a ZDDP content of no less than 0.14% (1400 ppm).

MY QUESTION: WHAT IS THE ZDDP CONTENT IN THE LUCAS TB ZINC-PLUS ENGINE BREAK-IN OIL ADDITIVE?

            Thank you.

I'm building a 403 olds engine right now and going to be breaking it in within the next week. Will this product work for the first start-up as an additive, knowing it will be a street use after this, and not continuing use after the break in cycle? Also will it work with a sunthetic oil?
