Installed this in a 96 Mazda B4000. Fit and functions just like original. If your original key is in good nick you can just swap the tumblers with the original. There are videos on how to do this. In my case the original key was worn down to nothing. This is a 10 cut key, the first six starting at the tip are for the ignition and only they are cut. The last six cuts control the doors. The center two cuts are shared by the both. On the first one I bought the last two cuts (5&6) were deeper than the original but AAP exchanged it no ?'s asked. Then I gave a locksmith one of my door locks and had the last six rekeyed. Again, you will have to swap the last two tumblers from the original ignition to do this. May sound like a bit of work but it was actually fairly straightforward and much cheaper than buying a complete ignition & door lock kit. Only issue I have with this cylinder is it is too much like OEM. The handle base is still round and just crimped over the tumbler unit so in time it will spin freely and fail again. Making it hex shaped would have solved the issue but for this price thats' just nit-picking.

The part is relativly cheap, so for the price it works. It wasnt as easy to install as keyed ignitions in the past. It was a very tight fit to say the least. The key leaves something to be desired, its a cheap plastic ford knock off. But as i said earlier for the price it truley isnt to bad. I wouldnt exactly recommend it but if your tight on cash it will do the job.

Comments about Locksmart Ignition Lock Cylinder:

Very simple as long as you slide it in correctly as the instructions state. Keep in mind where the pin is and you will have no trouble. Don't listen to any of the other people saying it is low quality. This product is just as good as the original so dont waste your money on the more expensive lock cylinders. Obviously those bad reviews were written by kiss-up employees of the competing brands.

I have a 1995 Ford Explorer the key lock cylinder is loose. Is it possible to use original keys that came with my truck with this part? If not it's perfectly okay.

                        A:

Great question, Joe! The way the kit is designed you would normally need to use the keys that come with the kit. I checked the reviews for the Ignition Lock Cylinder and found one of the customers, Sereno011, who also purchased this product was able to use the keys that came with the vehicle by replacing tumblers. His process may not work for everyone. If you attempt to do the swap the advice is use at your own risk.

For help with your project, I recommend purchasing a Haynes repair manual specifically for your vehicle. This should be able to assist you further into detail on how to repair or replace specific parts.

remove a battery cable then put your key in and turn it to the run position. take a punch or screw driver an depress the little knob on the cylinder you can access this threw a small hole on the bottom of the steering column. then pull straight out. put the key in the new cylinder turn it to the run position and push it back in where the old one came out they only line up one way. good luck and check you tube if you get stuck.

It really isn't hard. I'm paraphrasing, but basically you turn your old ignition to RUN press a little button on the bottom of the ignition (may have to take off the plastic shroud around steering column) and pull out the old switch. To install the new one, you pretty much just line it up and press it in till it clicks.
Do some searching, you'll find countless pages and videos out there. Youtube has plenty of walk-troughs!
