This key lock was a great product for a very reasonable price. Remember to get a steering wheel puller and steering plate puller. Quick replacement.provide slack on the turn signal block wires by following the wires to under the dash board, this will let you induce the boot to the ignition lock. Look on youtube for help

They are pretty easy to change if you have the right tools. I didnt have a lock plate compressor. If you don't have one you need a strog set of thumbs and an extra set of hands. The lock it self works great.

                          A:

Hello, with reference to your question, Locksmart Ignition Lock Cylinder - Part No. LC14300, the ignition lock is usually located on a motor vehicle’s steering column, dashboard or center console. When a key is inserted in the cylinder and turned, the vehicle’s engine will start. The ignition-lock cylinder is slotted to hold a unique ignition key so that another key cannot be used to start the vehicle. The ignition key also allows some automotive accessories to operate even though the vehicle may not be running. When the key is turned to the “accessory” position, a circuit becomes active that operates the radio, windshield wipers, cigarette lighter and so forth. On older vehicles the ignition lock cylinder will wear over time from the constant action of inserting and removing the key and will need to be replaced. For further assistance regarding the Part No.LC14300, please provide the year, make, model and engine size of your vehicle. For more information, please feel free to call us at: 1-877-238-2623 or visit the nearest Advance Auto Parts store and one of our Parts Pros will gladly assist you with any questions or concerns you may have.

I have a 1990 chevy c1500 truck. The key will not return to the off position. It is a manual trans, so I had to stall the engine and remove the neg. battery cable. Do I need a new lock cylinder? If not, what do you suggest?

I asked a question on 2/4 and got a detailed answer on how to go about installing this lock. Unfortunately, the instructions I was given were completely wrong. The steering wheel must be removed (with a puller), the steering wheel locking plate must be removed (with a special tool), and the turn signal mechanism must be removed. So thanks, but no thanks to you for your bad advice here. I told you that the vehicle was a 1990 Chevrolet K1500 truck--you apparently gave me instructions for a completely different vehicle. The factory service manual gave me the correct instructions.

Instructions: 1. Remove the screws that secure the upper and lower steering column shrouds together. Set the screws aside to be used later. Pull the shroud sections apart and locate the ignition key lock cylinder on the right side of the column. 2. Place the ignition key into the lock cylinder and turn it to the "auxiliary" position. 3. Locate the lock pin on the bottom of the ignition switch and push it into the switch, using your screwdriver. 4. Pull out on the cylinder lock half way. 5. Release the lock pin and turn the key to the "off' position. 6. Pull the old lock cylinder all the way out of the ignition switch. 7. Slide the new lock cylinder into the switch. As you push it in, it locks in place. 8. Place the upper and lower steering column shrouds on the steering column and secure them using the screws and screwdriver. • CUSTOMER CARE

                          A:

The ignition switch on your 1992 Chevrolet S10 4.3L should be mounted on the bottom of the steering column. You do not need to remove the steering wheel. You would need to remove the wheel to change the lock cylinder, but not the switch. The switch is worked by a rod that runs from it to the lock cylinder on the top of the column. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the lower column trim panel, then remove the steering column-to-instrument panel fasteners and carefully lower the column for access to the switch. Place the ignition switch in the off-lock position. If the lock cylinder was removed, the actuating rod should be pulled up until it stops, then moved down one detent; the switch is now in the lock position. Remove the ignition switch-to-steering column retainers, then remove the assembly. For installation please follow the instructions. Before installing the ignition switch, place it in the off-lock position, then make sure that the lock cylinder and actuating rod are in the locked position. Most replacement switches are pinned in the off-lock position for installation purposes. If so, the pin must be removed after installation or damage may occur. Install the activating rod into the ignition switch and assemble the switch onto the steering column. Once the switch is properly positioned, tighten the ignition switch-to-steering column retainers to 35 inch lbs (4.0 Nm). When installing the ignition switch, use only the specified screws since over length screws could impair the collapsibility of the column. Raise the column into position and secure, then install any necessary trim plates. Make sure the ignition is off, then connect the negative battery cable. For further assistance, please feel free to call us at 1-877-238-2623 or visit your nearest Advance Auto Parts store and one of our representatives would be more than happy to assist you.

You would need a steering wheel puller to take the steering wheel off. There is no special tool to remove the lock ring that holds a plastic plate and the steering wheel lock plate. You can then take the signal switch out with a Philips screw driver and there is a screw the holds the ignition switch. Remove that out and then the pull switch.
