Check Vehicle Fit

The front-end accessory drive system on this vehicle has historically had problems with throwing belts in rain and snow. Many of the problems have been the result of system misalignment and/or water ingression. Not being satisfied with the solutions available to consumers, Litens (the world's largest Original Equipment supplier of tensioners) re-engineered the drive and created this "fix-kit". The kit consists of a new tensioner with a grooved pulley (the original tensioner has a smooth pulley) , a new grooved routing idler (the original is smooth), and a double-sided serpentine belt. The grooves on the belt "lock-into" the grooves on the tensioner and routing pulleys making it near impossible to throw the belt. This system will solve the belt throwing problem once and for all!

Product Features:
  • Manufactured by the world's largest Original Equipment supplier of accessory drive tensioners and pulleys.
  • Internal tensioner "round spring" technology provides constant belt tension and alignment throughout its service life.
  • Installation instructions included.
  • Replacement idler & tensioner for this kit are available from Litens.
  • Professional Mechanics will change this tensioner in 1 hour.
  • Due to the fact that belts and tensioners have similar Original Equipment "design life targets", it is often a best practice to replace the belt tensioner when replacing a worn or broken belt. Belt removal is required to change the tensioner. Therefore doing both together will extend accessory drive life and lower overall labor versus performing these services separately.

Belt Installlation Difficult

Comments about Litens Automatic Serpentine Belt Tensioner -Original Equipment Quality:

Great Idea to fix the belt slipping off in the rain. New pulleys are grove and have flanges to keep the bely in place (i.e. no more smoothe tensioner and idler pulley). However, new belt is thicker and shorter to compensate for the smaller diameter of the replacement pulleys. This makes the new belt harder to install. It won't go over the pulley flange easily. I suggest the last pulley be the A/C or Alertnator (Smaller lip/flange). Rotate the component as yoou install it, if possible.

Comments about Litens Automatic Serpentine Belt Tensioner -Original Equipment Quality:

Solves the problem of the serpentine belt slipping off (Dodge Caravan, Chrysler Town & Country) when raining or wet. Easy to install, but the belt tensioner's nut/stud is difficult to reach on the 3.8 liter engine. It gives me piece of mind knowing that the belt will not slip off again the next time it rains. Well worth the money.

This product takes care of the wet belt slippage issues with the Chrysler T&C vans. New tensioner is very tight so be ready to muscle the belt onto the Idler Pulley. Make sure the Idler Pulley stays lined up properly on the bolt. Also take a 16mm socket with you under the van. Someone change the 15mm bolt head for a 16mm on my van.

I had issues when it rained, the belt would slip off. these new pullies are grooved, the piece of mind now knowing it will not come off when my wife is by herself again is worth changing the tensioner

Comments about Litens Automatic Serpentine Belt Tensioner -Original Equipment Quality:

Very good idea. I have been looking for a way to change the pulleys with grooved ones and was told by other parts places that they didn't make pulleys like that for my van. I would like to get a part number for the double sided belt incase I needed to purchase another belt for some reason. The pullys are smaller than the original pulleys and the tensioner has a little more tension than the original which is good. I even gave the part number to my local Advance because when I told the manager about it he wanted to keep at least one in stock.

I have a 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport. 3.3 liter engine. I purchased an Automatic Serpentine belt tensioner kit. Part # 999161A. I noticed that the idler pully is smaller than the oirginal. Will the belt still fit with a smaller idler pully?

              A:

Hi Rick! This tensioner shows to be an exact fit so it should work with no issue. When the original equipment manufacture updates their parts the brands we carry need to update theirs as well to meet or exceed OE spec in order for us to sell them. So the part may look slightly different but it should still work.

          • Q:

I purchased and put one of these kits on my 2000 Chrysler T&C with the 3.8 liter back in July 2013 and it has been doing great until a few days ago. The tensioner has started making a squeeling noise. It seems like it is more the belt contacting the pulley but, I rememeber when I put the tensioner on I could barely get the belt on, now I can grab the belt and move the pulley fairly easily. Does this mean that I have a defective tensioner and should replace it? If so, how do I get a new one without buying the whole kit again?
