Great quality!

Very high quality item. Perfect replacement and fit. Easy to install. Do NOT buy the $10 one. Pay the [$] and you'll see the high quality fittings and reinforcements.

I do like Advance, that's why I keep coming back, but, literally, half of the parts I buy (because the system says "exact fit") I bring back because they don't fit. This is one of those parts. I try to illustrate to mark that part as "not correct fit" but weeks later the system says the same.
It's 50/50 with Advance. Good parts, but you have a 50% chance the part won't fit your vehicle. Plan ahead.

    Comments about Lares Steering Coupler:

I really couldn't believe that Advance carried a replacement rag joint for a 1971 F100 but sure enough it is a perfect fit. And those other reviewers that said these were terrible? I can only assume they either received something else or destroyed it while installing improperly. Beats me.

    Comments about Lares Steering Coupler:

This product bolted right into my 46 year old classic car to replace the original which was damaged in an accident. It was an exact fit. I suspect anyone who said it didn't fit probably didn't have the right one. There are three different ones that look similar.

Heavy duty part that fit well. The posts were smaller than the original one that was on the truck but does not seem to matter since it is held in place using the two bolts going through the two holes.

I oringally bought the universal disc type repair kit you get out in the aisles, it was worthless. This one sits behind the shelves in back so you know it's good (HA HA J/K).

Seriously, tightened up my steering, went from about a 1/2 inch of play to virtually nothing. Dollar for dollar it's hard to beat.

                  A:

I'm glad to assist, Ty! It's not likely that the coupler would cause that issue. If the coupler were to fail, there would be constant play, or it wouldn't turn the input at all. Please let me know what vehicle are you working on and I'm happy to help find the cause of the issue.

what is the purpose of a Steering Coupler ? How do you know when it time to replace the Steering Coupler ?
Asked on 10/7/2014 by James in training from Birmingham Al.

                • CUSTOMER CARE

                  A:

I'm happy to help, James! The steering coupler is a joint that allows the steering wheel to rotate without binding up in the column. Excess play in the steering wheel could be a symptom of a failing steering coupler. There are many steering parts that could cause excess play in the steering wheel. I suggest checking a repair manual (Haynes Part No. 36054) for possible diagnostic procedures for your 1978 Ford F-100 5.0L V8. If you would like additional diagnostic assistance, please try our 'Need expert help?' link further down this page.

if my 1979 ford thunderbird is suspended in air and the wheel is shaken left to right , is this the part that will turn if defective?

                • CUSTOMER CARE

                  A:

Hi d, great question! There are possibilities that a steering coupler can cause this. However, the answer to that is perhaps a bit more complicated than you think. This really may need a mechanic’s expertise to determine. I would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not solve or be the problem.
