I see a lot of reviews on here about it messing with the mass air flow sensor on chevy trucks I have a 97 Silverado and a 02 avalanche and I have never had a problem with that. Not saying the people are wrong but I have never experienced this. I noticed less restriction right from the start and will eventually save time and money replacing these things. If you do encounter the mass air flow issue a simple cleaner will remove and excess oil on the sensor and maybe a soak up any extra oil with a cloth prior to installation. I love K&N filters I use the oil filters in every vehicle I have and never had a problem and same with the air filters. If your looking for HP gain you wont find it here maybe a 1/2-5 hp depending on the size and output of your engine. cleans better than most filters out there and clean air into and engine equals better combustion and cleaner engine as a whole.

I have used these before and all seemed well until cleaning and an oil recharge. You need to be ready to clean your MAF sensor especially if it is very close to the airbox. I somewhat agree with K&N that the oil doesn't destroy the sensors but they can get oily which will seriously impact driveability until cleaned! There is some very high temp at which the oil will simply burn once in the engine so it doesnt seem to be a long term issue except your airbox will never reach this "burn off" temp.

Comments about K&N Panel Type Cotton Gauze Air Filter:

This is a great air cleaner that had increased my gas millage by two miles per gallon. This may not seem like much but when you drive an average of fifty miles per day it adds up. This is an easy to use durable product with a lot of good features. It is nice that there is cleaning and recharging products available to use with this product. It is easy to install and works great with my truck. It fits just like the stock product and was so easy to install my thirteen year old son did it while I watched him. I will buy this air filter for future vehicles I own, it is worth the money.

Comments about K&N Panel Type Cotton Gauze Air Filter:

Had noticed that my truck seemed a little down on performance but it is 5 years old with over 130,000 miles on the odometer. I also knew it was about time to replace the air filter. I had used a K&N air filter in a previous vehicle, so I decided to go with one again. I ordered it online and scheduled it for store pickup. Initially I was a little concerned because of the box size but found out that it was just the packaging when I pulled it out. The filter fit perfectly in the stock housing. I was eager to test it. I live near I-26 and when I merged, my truck's performance was back. I also routinely track my mileage and on my second tank of fuel with the filter installed, I've calculated an extra 0.5 MPG. I'm on my third tank and just gas gauging and trip odometer reading, I estimate another jump in mileage. We will see!

Once again, another K&N. New truck, new air filter. It's a no brainer to buy an air filter with a million mile warranty. I live in Florida with alot of sand, only clean these once a year. When you sell one of your vehicles, it peaks peoples interest when they know it has a K&N in it, a sign that you take care of your car.

You can go on the K&N website to view the test that they have done on this matter. They also requested Failed MAFS be sent to them to determine cause of failure out of the 100's tested none were determined to be caused by the oil in the filter. They did a test in which they actually dipped a MAFS into the oil they use on the filters and the Sensor still passed. They will also fight a dealership on your behalf if the dealership tries to deny your warranty. Check it: http://www.knfilters.com/maf/massair.htm

It is best that you contact your dealer of this situation. Cause some will say that it has to be a Motorcraft (Ford) or an AC Delco (GM). Dealerships can be very picky and use this against you.

When you clean this filter, use ther pump spray bottle and spray it on the intake side of the air filter (side facing down into air box). Wait for 5 minutes after spraying to soak for better cleaning. Then use a small amount of water pressure from a hose and spray thru the opposite side of where you sprayed the cleaner. Make sure you spray the same path as the cleats (RIBS) for better results. Depending on the weather conditions, you can let it dry outside in the sun for about one to two hours. Or you can use a hair dryer to dry it quicker after you have shakin it to make sure all of the water is out of the cleats. After drying, spray small amount of your oil on the intake side while following the cleats. Let this dry about 30 minutes. Hold your filter up to bright light to make sure that you have an even coat of spray. If not, lightly spray that spot. If not, reinstall your filter in the breather box. On some truck models you have to reset the air fillter monitor gage.

Depending on your driving conditions and what shape that your motor is in, yes, this can increase your MPG's from low as 2 to 6 or 7 at most. But , there are other things that can even help you more. Like proper maintanance, tire pressure, wheel balance and alignment and other things that are mentioned in your owners manual. You take care of your vehicle and your vehicle will take you many miles down the road.
