It's a great product, I installed two of them on two honda engines while changing oil, the only downside is the "bolt" feature to tighten it to the engine is non standard (at least on the 1010) so it will slip off your ratchet by the time you need it the most, final tightening. easily fixed with a cloth to improve grip. I will recommend this filter over the OEM everytime.

This is the second K&N filter for my Honda Crosstour that has leaked oil (2 quarts in 4months) from the holes drilled in the nut portion of the filter. The holes are drilled for a safety wire and they are apparently nicking the oil filter case and causing a hole. Do not buy one that has this hole feature.

    Comments about K&N Oil Filter:

I never had a problem with this filter in terms of it leaking. The nut they add for easy installation is a plus. Buy this with one of the 20% off coupons they always have on here and you wont feel as bad buying it even though its only $1 more than the Mobil 1 brand.

I had the same issue as Bill, a previous reviewer. Oil started leaking severely out of the wrench-off nut portion of the filter after a few months. Luckily I caught it before the engine was destroyed.

          Comments about K&N Oil Filter:

I went to purchase this filter for my 2006 Honda Accord. I've used this brand filter for years. When I opened the box to examine the filter it had "Made in Korea" on it. I know for a fact that the last filter I purchased by K & N said "Made in the USA" on it. K & N has lost a loyal customer. I also checked other part numbers of K & N and every filter I checked had "Made in Korea" stamped on the filter.

          Comments about K&N Oil Filter:

Bought this for my 2010 Honda Accord thinking it would add a little more with the aftermarket parts I've put in. Went on easy and lasted about 500 miles before the 2 notches that are "suppose" to help you remove it heated up and the seal from the inside to the bottom of the notch blew through. Car started smelling bad in air vents and oil light came on within a week of the smell. Turns out this filter was not built to last. Leaked oil all over my garage and now I have to pay for another oil fill just to change the filter! Waste of time and money, avoid. Search on Google others have same problems.

I reviewed lots fo filters online and looked at the guts of each. This filter is a step above but you will pay for it. Does it matter? Likely not to the casual driver, but a real piece of mind. I used to buy FRAM but recent reviews suggest that the quality is really not there any longer.

Since you are using a full synthetic oil, I would follow the manufacturer's oil change interval. If you change your oil more often than that, you are wasting your money. Always change your filter when you change your oil.

Answered on 9/10/2010 by MarkK from Twinsburg, OH
                • A:

Since 1988, I have been using top name-brand full synthetic motor oil in all of my eight vehicles. Most often I use Mobil 1, but I also use Valvoline, Pennzoil and Quaker State when on sale. I buy top quality filters such as K & N or Mobil 1. I run the oil to about 20,000 miles, making sure it is always up to the full mark. I have run some vehicles over 200,000 miles this way. I replace the filter each time I change oil.

I've never had any engine problems, the cars keep their normal fuel consumption and oil consumption. Most of my cars use less than a quart of oil every 4000 miles. If you use top quality full synthetic oil, you are wasting your money if you change it more often than about 15,000 miles.

Mobil 1 engineers tell me that synthetic oil does not oxidize to corrosive acids in the crankcase the way conventional "dinosaur" oil does. This is the main reason you can extend the change interval so dramatically. Synthetic is actually cheaper than conventional oil used this way.
