For everyone who has struggled with stubborn and stripped nuts and bolts, this is the answer to your prayers! I was removing my H-pipe from my '98 Mustang GT when I came across this stubborn nut that was in a difficult place to reach. I had no luck with blaster PB, and stripped the nut using a deep socket. I heard about the Irwin bolt grip sockets, and bought the original set, only to find that the size I wanted was in the expansion set. This is my only complaint, that this product is sold in two sets. Still, I reccomend purchasing both sets because it is WELL WORTH THE PRICE! The socket held on tight to the STRIPPED nut and finally got it loose! And the socket still looks brand new, no damage at all, and I used my legs to provide the force! Both sets come with a wide range of sizes, perfect for any job that is unneccesarily difficult.

I bought this set to remove a 10mm bolt from a rear-brake cylinder on my car. Unfortunately, the head of the bolt is now corroded to about 9mm and the tool (smallest in the set is 10mm) won't work. I'm sure if there was a smaller socket (9mm), it'd work

AMAZING PRODUCT!! Saved me from $$$ in auto repair

Comments about Irwin Expansion 5 Pc Set Pliers:

I was trying to get a nut off my rear wheel spacers when the inevitable happened...I stripped it big time. I went to the autoparts store and 1st tried a 6-point socket instead of the 12-point. This made my partial hex into an official circle. I saw these on Youtube and decided to give them 1 last ditch effort before I would take it to the mechanic to have it cut off. I lightly tapped the socket onto the nut and held my breath as I gave it a firm counter-clockwise turn......BINGO! Took it right off! This tool saved me alot of money and it works AS ADVERTISED! Great product

wish larger ones had 1/2 drive

Comments about Irwin Expansion 5 Pc Set Pliers:

I purchased this set at an auto repair store to remove a stripped lug nut. All of these bolts are turned internally with a 3/8" socket. The 3/4 " size (largest in this set) fit the 2007 Ford Focus lug nuts which require the 19mm side of the lug wrench to turn under normal circumstances. After lubricating the nut with wd 40 and letting it sit for an hr, and hammering the extraction bolt onto the stripped lug nut, I tried to turn it with a new 3/8" breaker bar augmented with 48 inch pipe. The force was too much for the breaker bar which snapped, leaving the extraction bolt stuck onto the lug nut and 3/8" drive socket filled with the broken portion of the breaker bar. After another trip to the hardware store, I tried again, heating the lug nut with a torch, but it still would not budge with the force just under what snapped the 3/8" driver on round one. Final solution was to get a 27mm socket head with a 1/2 inch driver placed over the top of the Irwin 3/4" extraction bolt, supplemented with 48" pipe and a lot of hand force (didn't have to step/jump on the pipe). The Irwin product was not damaged and is obviously well made, but the average USA made 3/8" breaker bar can't stand up to the forces required to use it. It would have saved money and time if the largest of these had a 1/2" drive. In addition, while it's helpful to have the extraction bolts labeled with the size nut they are designed to extract, it would to also stamp them with the outer hex bolt size needed to turn them, since each one is different.

        Worth twice the price!

Comments about Irwin Expansion 5 Pc Set Pliers:

I have a 1982 Jeep CJ7 thats new to me. I wanted to change the manual trans fluid. The fill and drain plugs were square and rusted tight I tried an wrench,12pt socket, pipe wrench, adjustable crescent, torch you name it. All I did was round it them off. Local auto parts chain had no good ideas and I can't weld so I picked up the standard set and expansion set of these Irwin bolt grip extractors. Hammered the 5/8 on the fill plug, put my breaker and cheater bar on and bam! Fill plug came right out. Had to put the Irwin socket in a vice and punch the plug out because the extractor bit in so hard! Went to remove the drain plug and it popped so loud I was sure I'd broken it. Nope! Irwin didn't let me down. Love this set! It's a must have in my tool box!

Comments about Irwin Expansion 5 Pc Set Pliers:

I was changing the brake pads on my PT Cruiser, and the prior owner had of course stripped the caliper bolts a bit. One side I removed both okay, the other I had no luck. I had carefully tried every socket and box wrench that would fit realizing that they were compromised. Anyway after a few choice words I looked this set up on line, watched some videos and went out and purchased it. It took maybe two minutes to get both bolts off. I have a few Irwin tools, clamps in particular, that have been top shelf products.

I had rounded rusty bolt heads on the rear brake callipers of my car. I wasn't sure how I would remove them, however I was lucky to find the Irwin tool. 30 seconds and the bolts were removed.Very simple, but very effective. Well made as well. Happy!!

        Freakin awesome tool

Comments about Irwin Expansion 5 Pc Set Pliers:

I bought this today to help me take out a threaded oil plug that I accidentally tore up because the bolt was on far too tightly. This has been the only ratchet head to not slip off the plug and though I had to use a good old kick just to get it loose, it kept it's grip on the bolt. If only you knewy relief of finally finding a tool that doesn't shred an overly tight bolt.
