I love this size and performance. A must have compared to those radiator core coolers...what a joke. Mine sometimes come with a 1/4 inch hose and 3/8 barbs. Check it out before going home from store

Comments about Imperial High Performance Transmission Oil Cooler:

I installed the transmission cooler on a 2006 Saturn Vue with the Honda 6cyl. engine and transmission. We use it to tow our camper. It is imperative to keep the transmission fluid cool in the Honda transmission and this cooler mor than handles the job. It is not extremely difficult to install, but you do need at least average mechanic skills. Removing the left front tire and plastic dirt shield makes getting to the oil lines very easy. Also it give you access to the transmission oil drain plug. Dislodging the A/C condenser is not overly difficult to mount the new cooler on to it. The hardest part of the install was filiing the transmission with fresh fluid through the 3/8 inch fill tube where the dip stick is located.

Comments about Imperial High Performance Transmission Oil Cooler:

Installed it on a dodge grand caravan. Taking the grill of the van took some time, but the actual installation of the cooler was easy. The only problem that I had was trying to find the right connectors to hook up the cooler to the existing transmission line. There seems to be no one that sells any type of compression fitting with the right size barb that will fit into the hose that was included in the kit. I ended up getting a compression fitting with a slightly smaller barb fitting and double clamping the barb side. So far no leaks. Its been installed for about a month now.

I bought this after I was told I had a transmission problem. It didn't help the problem, but it turned out the problem was elsewhere. I can't really tell if the cooler is helping in my application, but it sure can't hurt, and could improve the life of my transmission.

Install on a 2006 in front of all radiator and condensor. Drill two holes to get the cable infront of radiators or you can find a long enough tube and route it all the way in front. Fits perfectly where inlet and out pointing verticle. For the price is pretty good for 6 passes. Enough for my daily hard on the gas and long distance drive.

Comments about Imperial High Performance Transmission Oil Cooler:

My Tacoma didn't have a towing package. I installed a hitch and started towing a 3800 lb pop-up camper. It was more than my transmission could handle as I smelt burned fluid after the first trip. So I did a transmission flush and installed this cooler. We just did our first trip with it installed and it seems to be keeping the tranny cool enough now. The only complaint I have is that they could provide with more rubber hose. If you want to install the thing in very front, where it should be for max performance, then you have to go buy an addt foot or two of hose.

Hi, I just purchased this transmission oil cooler kit and the two fittings that screw into the cooler itself with the barbed ends (shown in the picture) did not come with the sealed kit...I was wondering how I go about getting these two fittings that install to the cooler?? I would like these two fittings asap.

                          A:

A transmission oil cooler is a small, finned radiator that circulates warm oil to stabilize the temperature of the transmission. It is normally placed in front of the primary engine coolant radiator, directly in the path of incoming cool air. The average backyard mechanic can install a transmission oil cooler in about an hour. Remove the grille on the vehicle to access the engine radiator. Some models allow limited access underneath the vehicle, or through the engine compartment. Position the oil cooler radiator in front of the engine radiator and secure it with zip ties through the fins of the engine radiator. The oil cooler does not weigh much, and does not put too much stress on the fins. Most models have enough space to mount the cooler without blocking the main engine fan, but check the clearance for at least 2 inches of gap. Make sure to place the cooler so that you can connect the lines without obstruction. Connect the rubber adapter lines to the nipples on the oil cooler radiator by pushing the rubber over the line nipple, then turning the screw-type hose clamps clockwise until they are tight. The upper line is the intake, and the lower line the output, to make better use of gravity. Run the short rubber hoses to the location chosen for the steel lines. Secure the long steel lines to the frame rail, or a convenient location where they follow the best possible path from the oil cooler to the transmission. They are typically secured with zip ties or tap-screwed mounts. Connect the rubber adapter lines to the steel lines by pushing each hose over the relative line, then turning the hose clamp screws clockwise. Attach the steel lines to the transmission by turning the line screws clockwise onto the transmission's line openings. In some cases, drilling holes in the side of the transmission oil pan and transmission housing (to mount line thread nuts) may be necessary. This involves removing the pan by turning the mounting bolts counterclockwise and machining it away from the vehicle; place one hole in the front of the pan and one in the top of the housing so that the warm fluid can use the pressure of the transmission pump to push it through the cooling lines. The placement of the top hole varies depending on the model of the transmission; see the manufacturer's documentation. Typically it is drilled or placed directly in front of the transmission pump. Fill the transmission fluid to the proper level, compensating for the extra capacity of the cooling radiator.
