Flex fans provide maximum air flow when the engine is operating at low RPM, such as in stop-and-go traffic. When the engine is operating at high RPM, the fan blades flatten to reduce the draw on engine horsepower.

            watch when you order this fan .it says nothing about not fitting 5.7L on the web page however when i recieved it[...] it says will not work on anything bigger than a 4.1L WHY?

                This Imperial High-Flow Flex Fan - part# 223619 is universal and not a direct fit for your 2001 Dodge Ram. This flex fan features 19" - 6 blade, reverse rotation. This should be used with an Imperial fan spacer kit.               I put one on a 1989 F250 4X4 with 351. My thermo clutch fan was pulling down the motor, then the clutch disintegrated and put a hole in the hood. Hence putting one of these on. Now in this case I could tell there was an increase in power because the motor would spool up quicker. But this would be an extreme case of the thermo clutch being so bad as to rob power. So in this case it did a lot more good than an otherwise good thermo fan swap would be.
