    Comments about Gear Wrench 68-Piece 1/4" and 3/8" Drive 6- and 12-Point Standard/Deep Socket Set - SAE/ Metric:

I was doing research for some time on ratchet and socket sets. Many, many forums and reviews later I finally jumped on these Gearwrench tools. Let me tell you that these are just fantastic! Price difference on the 120xp's made me jump on these cause of the discounts I got through advance. I don't regret it one bit. Smooth action,, feel durable and quality. These are the best tools I have ever owned and will be buying and recommending Gearwrench from now on. didn;t have the case problem like some have listed. mine all fit just fine and i even carried it upside down to test it out. also threw in a 10" extension for the 3/8", placing it between the two top rows of sockets, still holds in place. Really you just need to buy more Gearwrench tools!

GearWrench is changing the game in top tier tools. The only reason to even consider buying tool truck brands is if you cant afford your tools and need some guy to finance you and charge insane interest. These tools are every bit as good as any of those tool truck brands, and GearWrench is innovating faster than they can keep up. I got the 84 tooth version of the ratchets with my kit and let me tell you they are smooth. Well built sockets, and just high quality all around.

The set seems very well made with good machining. It is a good all around set. The case however does not retain the tools in any way. When I opened the box at my house the sockets were all in a pile. They should have included some foam in the case to help keep the tools in place or made the case with some kind of retention.

        Good set with variety.

Set was made in Taiwan. Quality shows. Ratchets are smooth. This is not one of those sets where there's a lot of 'fluff' (see other big box retailer sets) added to bring the total piece count up.

Sockets can come free and rattle around in the case if being transported. Not a deal breaker.

Is there some kind of color coding so metric can be distinguished from SAE?
Asked on 5/15/2016 by PeteC from Buffalo, NY

                A:

Hi PeteC, that's a good question! Fastener manufacturers mark metric bolts differently than SAE bolts. Manufacturers emboss International Standards Organization (ISO) metric bolts larger than 6 mm in diameter with either "ISO M" or "M" on top of the head. In addition, manufacturers stamp most metric bolts with a number on the bolt head, such as 4.6, 5.8 or 10.9. This number has nothing to do with the size, but does indicate the relative strength of the bolt: the higher the number, the stronger the bolt. Manufacturers mark some metric nuts with a single-digit number to indicate the strength, and some emboss the "M" and strength grade on the flats of the hex.
