Comments about Fram In-Line Fuel Filter:

The pros and cons do little to describe a product; they are more about the vehicle design. As in the title you need a tool to replace this filter. It also helps to have a near-empty gas tank and the front of the vehicle lifted.
Gas filters are inexpensive assurance that your vehicle is performing at its best.

Hi SGMAN, great question! The fuel filter on your Mercury Mariner should be located by the driver's side frame rail pretty much under driver door.

      A:

Kindly follow the instructions to install the Fram In-Line Fuel Filter - Part No. G3850 on your 2010 Ford Escape Limited, Unplug the fuel pump relay located in a relay assembly inside the engine compartment. Start the engine and let it idle. Once it stalls, crank the engine for about five seconds to relieve the residual pressure in the system. Turn the ignition key to the "Off" position. Disconnect the black, negative battery cable using a wrench. Raise the rear of your Ford Escape using a floor jack and support it on two jack stands. Locate the filter along the underside of the vehicle, near the fuel tank. Remove the locking tabs that hold the fuel lines to the filter on each side. Press the tab legs on each side of the fitting with your fingers while pulling the back tab with a small screwdriver. Once released, pull the tab from the line fitting and remove the other tab. Cover the fittings with a shop rag as you pull the lines off the filter to catch any fuel remaining in the line. Loosen the clamp holding the filter to the vehicle chassis using a screwdriver or ratchet and socket. Remove the fuel filter from the vehicle. Set the new filter in place and make sure the arrow on the filter points towards the front of the vehicle. Tighten the fuel filter clamp using the screwdriver or ratchet and socket. Attach the fuel lines to the fuel filter fittings. Install new lock tabs to the fittings to secure the fuel lines to the filter. Lower the vehicle. Plug the fuel pump relay. Connect the black, negative battery cable using the wrench. Turn the ignition key to "On" but do not start the vehicle. Make sure there are no leaks at the filter connections. Start the engine and let it idle. Double-check for leaks. The in-line fuel filter should be located on the passenger side, under the door near the front wheel well. It is behind a curved shield called the fuel filter heat shield.

Since the customer service people are clueless considering their system indicates what the filter fits on, one side has a connection fitting that releases and the other side has a squeeze clamp the you use pliers on. It's easy to remove and replace.
