Comments about Fram Fresh Breeze Cabin Air Filter:
There are two levels of cabin air filter: cheapo paper elements & activated carbon elements. The ONLY reason why you would use the first kind is if you are a cheapskate who doesn't care about doing things right. But then again, why would you even go through the trouble of replacing a cabin air filter if you didn't intend to do it right? You'd probably just ignore the whole thing entirely. So, now that you've decided to tackle the job, why not spend a few more bucks and use the right part?
There are several different brands of activated carbon filters on the market, but I guess Fram thinks the Arm & Hammer name is worth charging more for. The real advantage of the Fram brand is that it may be the ONLY carbon filter available that fits your car. The captive market always pays more. For the Volvo 850/S70/V70, you must be sure that you have the proper plastic bracket to hold the filter; many cars do not. This bracket is easily available for <$15 online or for pennies at the salvage yard. The bracket and filter simply snap into place with about 60 seconds of work to remove two screws.
