Comments about Fram Extra Guard Oil Filter:

I highly recomend this filter for use on all diesel trucks. I have used it on my trucks for the last 30 years with good results. I have had two trucks with over 250 thousand miles on them and the motors still ran strong due to regular oil changes and the use of this great oil filter.

Comments about Fram Extra Guard Oil Filter:

I have two Diesel Trucks: A first Gen Cummins and a third Gen Cummins. I use this filter on both trucks. To replace the filter, the air intake hose must be removed on either one. This filter is smooth sided, I install it by hand as tight as I can. It doesn't leak and is easily removed by hand or if I need to, I simply use my filter strap wrench. It must be a good filter because the First Gen has more than 600k miles and the third Gen is over 200k miles. Great Value for the money.

Although it has a smooth surface which initially I thought would be difficult to both remove and install it turned out well. I was able to remove the old Fram filter from the top and install the new Fram filter from below the truck.

Comments about Fram Extra Guard Oil Filter:

The oil filter is in a very tight space and difficult to remove unless the filter has a built-in socket design or is compatible with the appropriate size filter removal cap. I recommend the Bosch or K &N or OEM model. This smooth Fram will give the home mechanic a lot of trouble. If the filter is very tight, it will be very difficult to remove. I have a dealer-installed filter and am still trying to figure out how to access and remove it. My large slip-joint pliers is not able to grip the 4-inch round filter. It is in a very dissapointing location and very high to reach laying on your back. If it were easy to access, many kinds of filter strap tools would be fine. Unfortunately, this filter is in a bad location. Buy a filter such as the K&N so you can use an extension bar, socket, and wrachet from underneath the filter. This is really good advice.
