Comments about Felpro Oil Pan Gasket Set:

Best gasket available. Obviously, it is MUCH easier to install this with the engine out of the vehicle, like I did, which allowed me to completely remove and clean all previous gasket material from the last person who tried to fix the leak with an inferior gasket and a PILE of RTV (and still failed.) If you read the instructions, it specifically states that you do not need to use any RTV with this seal, and they know what they are talking about. Oil pan is now sealed correctly with zero leaks.

Easy to tell where I parked my 90 Corvette. Used very minimally, seals dry out, need replacement every 8 to 10 years. Complete set less expensive than GM and better quality.

Comments about Felpro Oil Pan Gasket Set:

There are two main things that I really liked about this product. First thing is the fact that no silicone or RTV is necessary for the install. With the motor still in the car, this makes it much easier. Secondly, the "pins" that are supplied also make it much easier on the install. Overall great product.

Note: if you order this (Blue) gasket kit and the Timing Chain cover gasket from Felpro. You do not need or use the (bottom only)of Timing Chain pan cover (black gasket) that comes with this additonal Felpro kit. This is all you need for Oil pan and makes it installation a snap. The rubber material and design provide even clamping along the entire oil pan, while grommets and other seals, design features prevent over tightening.

Depends on your vehicle. For help with your project, I recommend purchasing a repair manual specifically for your vehicle. This should be able to assist you further into detail on how to repair or replace specific parts.

Yes, you essentially "have" to take the motor out to perform this task. Not only wouild the oil pan be hard to handle with the oil in it, you'd probably end up spilling a bunch of it on you and/or the ground/floor/driveway. If you want to re-use the oil (e.g., it's expensive synthetic oil that hasn't used up much of its life), just drain it into a clean plastic or metal container, verify that it is clean, keep it clean, and poor it back into the engine when the job is finished.

Answered on 4/1/2012 by Charlie from Belvidere, IL
                        • A:

1st thing you need to do is DRAIN YOUR OIL

2nd depending on what type of vehicle it is and how much clearance you have between the cross member and the oil pan,
you might get lucky and not have to do anything other than take the pan down and remove it.

If you cannot get the pan out, just remove your motor mounts and jack the engine up a little until you have enough clearance to take it out.

I just replace my oil pump on a 97’ GMC C3500 Van and it only took me an 1hr and a 1/2 from start to finish.

Just make sure you raise the vehicle high enough to be able to work under it.
"AND DEFINETLY MAKE SURE YOU USE JACK STANDS"
so the vehicle is secure and safe from falling on top of you while you’re working underneath it.

When you're done make sure you add the new oil back in, and don't

forget to replace the oil filter with a new one.
