Comments about Felpro Oil Pan Gasket Set:

There is a lot of misinformation out there on what to use - gasket or RTV. Many suggest RTV especially if the surfaces are uneven or if the factory installation had no gasket. I made the mistake of going the RTV route and my lower oil pan leaked immediately. I spent the next few days trying to undo the RTV mess. Then I decided to spend a few bucks on the Fel-pro gasket before I tried the RTV option again. I am glad that I did. It's been 2 weeks and no leaks!! Whether you use rtv or this gasket, the secret is to spend some extra time and clean both the engine surface and the oil pan. I used good oil fashion gasoline and a plastic blade scraper. If the surfaces are not 110% clean, then oil will leak. Learn from my mistake, please.

    Fit perfectly - no leaks

Comments about Felpro Oil Pan Gasket Set:

Although the factory original oil pan does not use a gasket, I'm sure the silicone sealant is robotically applied under new and clean conditions. I decided it was best to use the gasket to help insure against leaks. This is a high quality gasket from a recognized manufacturer.

G35 doesn't have OEM gasket on oil pan but this gasket fits 100% perfect. Very easy to install than using just RTV sealant only.

I bought from AAP and installed this cork gasket on my '02 i35. I thoroughly cleaned both surfaces and installed being careful not to over tighten. It leaks slightly now which is very annoying. I tightened a little more but that did not help. What is the secret to installing this so it will not leak!?

              A:

Hi Mike, glad to assist you! Here are the instructions to replace the oil pan gasket. Park the car on level ground. Place a basin underneath the oil pan and loosen the drain plug with a wrench. Always wear heavy work gloves while doing this so you don't get burned. Remove the oil plug and drain out all the oil. You will know all the oil is out when a full minute passes without a single drop of oil falling. Remove any car accessories that are in the way of accessing the oil pan. Find and remove all the oil pan's bolts, using your owner's manual as a guide. Remove the oil pan. Clean the oil pan with solvent. Inspect the pan for cracks. Install the new gasket according to the package instructions. Replace the oil pan, all the bolts and all the car accessories that you removed. Pour in fresh oil. Start the engine and let your car run for a few minutes. Turn the car off and check for leaks. If there's a leak, tighten the drain plug and check again. If there's no leak, your oil pan is fixed. If you still face the same problem, I would suggest that you take your vehicle and get it thoroughly checked by a certified mechanic before buying any parts that may/may not solve the problem.

what is the torque settings for the bolts for the oil pan

              A:

Hi Curt, generally, oil pan bolts should have a torque of 7 to 22 ft-lbs. Some manufacturers may have different torques for oil pan bolts. Softer or rubberized oil pan gaskets need less torque compared to those that have cork gaskets. A:

It is not recommended to use any silicone sealer when replacing this Felpro Oil Pan Gasket Set - part# OS 30688 or any other composite or rubber gasket. Use of silicone sealer on an oil pan gasket may dramatically increase the chances for a leak and make it harder to get the proper torque on all the bolts around the pan. I recommend purchasing a Haynes repair manual specifically for your vehicle. This should be able to assist you further into detail on how to repair or replace specific parts.
