When installing head bolts you torque to yeild in 3 step increments. My head bolt application is 65 foot pounds torque starting (25)FP to (45)FP and (65)FP of torque. THESE PEICES OF GARBAGE BROKE OFF AT 40 FOOT POUNDS. STAY AWAY FROM FAIL-PRO HEAD BOLT'S, ARP IS THE WAY TO GO.

Comments about Felpro Head Bolt Set:

These bolts worked great, I was a little worried about using them at first with the many unfavorable reviews on them but I trust the brand and decided to give them ago, I just prepped the block by chasing the threads, then used an air nozzle to clear any junk from the chased bolt holes, used a little oil on the threads of the new bolts, and they worked perfectly fine. I wonder if part of the problem others were having either has to do with dirty threads, hydro locked bolt holes from not clearing junk out of them or inaccurate torque wrench. These are a TTY bolt (Torque to yield) Meaning in most cases you have a single pass in sequence usually at a low torque (in my case 22 lbs. /ft.) then you need a torque angle gauge to put so many degrees of angle on the bolts in sequence which does the stretching of the bolts and finishes off the amount of downward pull each fastener applies. With such a low torque reading of 22lbs/ft. you are best off using an inch pound wrench since on foot pound wrenches 22 is very close to the bottom end that it reads and there for won't be quite as accurate. Whereas with an inch pound wrench you are looking at 264 inch pounds = 22 foot pounds if you get a wrench that reads 300+ inch pounds you are within its most accurate ranges, and even if it is off it's not going to be off by much maybe 1 ½ foot pounds, that is a much more tolerable range of inaccuracy than what a foot pound wrench would give you, could even be the difference between breaking bolts and not.

Comments about Felpro Head Bolt Set:

I went through two different sets of these trying to bolt on my 95 lt1 heads. Even rethreading the holes in the block, the longer bolts snap at about 60 ft lbs. The first two stages at 22 and 45 ft lbs they do fine, but on the third pass, snap. Its happened twice in a row so I'm just going to spend the extra $ and get head studs.

Piece of Garbage. First bolt broke

Comments about Felpro Head Bolt Set:

TRIED to install this 99 Chevy Tahoe 5.7. Spec says torque 22 ft lbs, 45 ft lbs and 65lbs. First bolt broke on second pass at 45 ft lbs. I thought it was my brand new torque wrench so I compared with my beam torque wrench and they match. I tried tightening another bolt just to see and that too started stretching and luckily I stop as soon as I heard a cracking noise and the bolt started turning easy. I checked that bolt after I back it out and it was about to break off. You get what you pay for. I like Fel Pro but I think I will stay on gaskets only.

Bolts were fine up to 50 lbs/ft, when torqued to 65 lbs/ft you could feel them stretch. Of course one broke, all the store will offer is a refund, which won't make you feel any better when you're taking the head back off and trying to get the broken bolt out of the engine block.....

                    A:

I am showing the torque for the connecting rods to be 50 ft. lbs. but in some instances it can be more. I am showing the inner main bearings to need 70 ft. lbs. and the out to need 65 ft. lbs. Once again, I recommend consulting a manual before any repairs are made to verify these numbers.

I am showing the torque to be 65 ft. lbs. I would first consult a manual before you actually torque them down to verify.
