I bought this for a 4.0 Explorer and its not even remotely correct. Mine uses the same clutch and compressor as the V8 model, and it has to be ordered and shipped here. No-one stocks it... Make sure you need a 5" clutch with a bolt in the center. If you have the 4" with the stud and nut this will not work

Good product to replace original. But very difficult to install in a 97 windstar van. Had to pull alt. power steering pump. Bracket. Then pull the compressor. Lines were flexible enough to pull compressor up enough so as not to disconnect ac lines.

Does the compressor and clutch engage when my 1992 ford ranger' heater is in the Defrost mode?
Asked on 6/23/2014 by Reg from Petersburg, IN

                    • CUSTOMER CARE

                      A:

I'm happy to help, Reg! The air conditioning clutch is designed to meet or exceed original equipment specifications. If your 1992 Ford Ranger is designed to engage the air conditioning compressor when the defrost is on, it will continue to do so with a new clutch. If your vehicle did not do it before, changing the clutch will not make it start engaging in defrost.

would this part "failing" cause the alternator to drop in voltage? (1 or 2 volts) it never used to for years.

                      A:

With reference to your inquiry on the Factory Air Air Conditioning Clutch - New - Part No. 47867, on a 12-volt system, the A/C compressor clutch needs a minimum of 11.5 volts to create the electromagnetic field necessary to engage the clutch pulley so refrigerant can flow. Many low-voltage problems stem from a bad ground wire connection. Low voltage causes the clutch not to fully engage. It slips, and eventually the clutch will fail. So will its replacement. To properly diagnose a voltage problem, you should recreate the peak demand. With the engine and A/C running, turn on lights, wipers, radios anything that draws from the truck’s electrical system. Then take a reading. Ideally, you want 13.5 volts but not less than 11.5 volts through the clutch coil. • Q:

What are the indicators that a clutch is failing or has failed? My A/C blows cold in short periods with no real pattern. Cold for 5-10 minutes, then hot for 10 minutes or longer. Is this indicative of a clutch failure or a refrigerant charge issue?
Asked on 7/16/2012 by Jethro from Birmingham, AL

                    1 answer

                    • CUSTOMER CARE

                      A:

The A/C compressor normally has a magnetic clutch to engage and disengage it. It should turn freely with the belt off and have virtually no resistance while you spin it. Even with the clutch engaged, you can normaly turn the compressor by hand, it may be hard to turn but it should not be so hard that you cannot turn it even slightly. If it will not move then the compressor clutch has failed and likely the compressor is damaged too. However, I would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified A/C mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not (solve/be) the problem.
