For the past few years, my A/C/heat would blow incredibly weak and would give off a startling high pitch hum. Installing was essentially easy. The only hard part was accessing the blower motor area. The only con is the there is a low hum when the air blows on the lowest setting. It's you cant hear it unless youre actually paying attention to it or if the radio is on. Other than that, my A/C/heat blows strong and better than ever.

One morning I had ice on my windshield so I turned my defrosters on by turning the fan switch dial. When I turned my fan dial from 1 - 5, nothing was working, no noise, no heat coming out of the vents, and worst of all, no defrosters and it is 34 degrees outside with ice on my windows. If you turn the fan switch dial and nothing works then you need to replace your heater blower. If your fan switch does work, but only on a couple different settings, like 3, 4, &5 but dial setting 1 and 2 doesn't work, then you need to replace the Heater Resistor Pack. If you need to replace the heater resistor pack, do yourself a huge favor and let a shop work on installing it. If you replace the blower motor, then you should be able to replace this yourself, but ask for a torx driver for the 3 screws you need to remove the blower unit. This unit is easy to install but is in a bad location inder the glove box. You must use the original heater hose that is attatched to the original blower motor. There is a wire connection that can be a pain to disconnect when taking the original unit out of the car, but if you have trouble, do not cut the wire. The install can take about 30 miniutes, but you will need a special torx driver to take the 3 screws out. This unit will hum on fan setting number one, but it can be annoying if your radio is off.If you plan to keep the car more than a few months, then I would suggest to spend more money and buy a different blower motor that is quiet.

Comments about Factory Air Blower Motor:

I paid a friend of mine $25 and a couple beers to install on a 99 Buick Century. Factory unit screamed with a bad bearing. I had read other comments about cutting wires but totally not necessary. Plugged right in and fit like original. Motor itself looks smaller than factory unit but works almost as well. Only difference I can notice is if AC is set to "normal" all speeds seem a little louder but no big deal for me because my music is fairly loud anyway. AC set to
"max" all speeds sound the same as factory unit.
Works like a champ and in Florida you MUST have air conditioning.

Order on line and delivered to my local store and along with the discount offered for on line, you cannot beat the price. It was in stock the next day. Every time I order from Advance its a pleasure.

Comments about Factory Air Blower Motor:

Installed in a 2003 Grand Prix. The blower motor is quieter than the OEM , but the vehicle is 10 years old. The price was fair and the unit was in stock. Installation was as difficult as expected but the replacement unit was not the problem. The lifetime warranty is a real selling point. I won't know for a while if it will require replacing under the warranty, but right now the motor runs fine. Perhaps I will not need to replace the motor resistor for a long time, with this new motor/blower.

Well this all depends on the skill level of whoever is removing or replacing the part. Some may have a harder time than others who have experience. I would recommend purchasing a Haynes repair manual specifically for your vehicle. This should be able to assist you further into detail on how to repair or replace specific parts.

                              • A:

No difference, same motor fits either/or. Dual zone climate dash control is controlled with damper door being adjusted thru vacuum assist to give either more air flow or less air flow toward passenger. Fan motor turns same with selected speed but air flow is adjusted for either more or less air blowing on passenger, depending on how far closed/open the damper door is.

For step by step instructions, I recommend looking into a repair manual for your vehicle.

Unplug electrical connector, remove 3 mounting screws, pull vent hose from duct and remove motor. To assembly check that squirrel fan is same size, (if not swap to fan from old motor). Mount gasket around base of fan housing, pull correct plug from new motor then take hose from old motor and insert into correct hole on new motor, (that hose is for dash control selecting recirculate). Insert motor back into and tighten screws, push hose end onto duct, connect elect plug.

Same motor blows air for both AC and heat. With AC on it blows cold and closes off water flow to heater core. With heat on it blows hot air that is sucked from heater core.
