This is the second Edelbrock carburetor I've bought in recent years. In both cases, I replaced a Holley 4150 that was not working well. I had spent a lot of time trying to get the Holley carbs to work well but could not. I swapped to the Edelbrock and immediately noticed a difference. I only had to do some minor adjustments on the idle screws and the car ran well. I swapped this carb from my car to a truck with a 351M, and it still ran well. I decided to get a second one so I wouldn't have to move the one I had back and forth.

This is a dead simple install and definitely better than most of the other carbs out there for a the comparable price.

Was told that this would bolt right on. Had to buy a $45 adapter plate, different transmission kick down bracket, and different kick down cable, and the piece that attaches the cable to the carb.I am getting about 11 mpg with it on my chevy 350 w/ 350 turbo auto trans. Check the box when you are buying it. My first one was missing the gasket, throttle nipple, manual, dvd,...The video and manual both say you will need the adapter plate and possibly the cable bracket. Advanced told me it was bolt and go...

Comments about Edelbrock Performer Series; Carb:

I bought this to replace the original Autocraft carb on the 352 engine in my 1965 Ford Galaxie. My son and I installed it in under an hour. Most parts necessary were included and the instructions were complete and easy to read. No adjustments had to be made to the carb. It worked perfectly right out of the box. It looked great setting atop the 352 as though it belonged there the whole time. My son got in and turned the key, the old lady came to life in a split second ready to reclaim the road. The only problem was the hook up for the throttle cable and the transmission kick down attachment. A separate kit had to be purchased in order to hook them up.

Happy to assist you Scott! This type of spark plug has many applications. If you can provide us with a year make model and engine size we can give you more information. You can also refer to a repair manual or a certified mechanic. The general rule of thumb for spark plug installation is thread it in by hand as a far as possible then with your ratchet give it about a quarter to a half of a turn. Keep in mind that is the general rule, for your application it may be slightly different.

                        A:

I'm happy to help, Gary! This Edelbrock Performer Series Carburetor (Part No. 1406) is designed for small-block and small displacement big-block engines at stock to Performer level. Edelbrock recommends matching these carburetors to an Edelbrock Performer or Performer EPS manifold or other brands with a similar design. This is a square bore 600 cfm, 4-bbl carburetor. This carburetor is calibrated 2% leaner than Part No. 1405 and includes both timed and full vacuum port for ignition advance.

The included metering jets are: primary - .098, secondary - .095; metering rods - .075 x .047; step up spring - yellow (4" Hg). If needed, use carb studs Part No. 8008 or 8024.

To mount this carburetor to a spread bore manifold, you may utilize Edelbrock Performer Series Carb Adapter (Part No. 2696). Keep in mind that Edelbrock carburetors will typically perform best when used with a matching intake manifold.

I'm happy to help, Rick! Edelbrock Part No. 1405 is calibrated for performance and uses a mechanical choke. Part No. 1406 is calibrated for fuel economy and utilizes an electric choke and is calibrated 2% leaner than 1405.

Here are details that can be found directly from Edelbrock:

                        1405 - 600 CFM, MANUAL CHOKE
                        (CALIBRATED FOR PERFORMANCE)
Designed and calibrated for optimum street performance in small-block and some big-block engines. Match with a variety of manifolds that include Edelbrock Performer, Performer EPS, Performer RPM, RPM Air-Gap, Torker II or other brands of similar design. Includes both timed and full vacuum ports for ignition advance. Electric choke #1478 can be added if needed. Comes with: Metering Jets - Primary .100, Secondary .095; Metering Rods - .070 x .047; Step-Up Spring - orange (5" Hg). Use Carb Studs #8008 or #8024 if needed.

                        (CALIBRATED FOR FUEL ECONOMY)
Designed for small-block and small displacement big-block engines, these carbs are recommended only for stock to Performer level applications. They are not recommended for use on RPM or Torker II intake manifolds. Match with an Edelbrock Performer or Performer EPS manifold or other brands of similar design. Calibrated 2% leaner than #1405. Includes both timed and full vacuum ports for ignition advance. Comes with: Metering Jets - Primary .098, Secondary .095; Metering Rods - .075 x .047; Step-Up Spring - yellow (4" Hg). I am replacing an old Holley 650 cfm double pumper on a 63 vette with an aftermarket cam and headers. I am considering the 1406 and 1806 carbs, but am not sure which would be the better choice for my engine setup.I am not racing, but want the car to run as well as it can with it's present equipment.Any advice on which one would be the better choice?

                        A:

Both Edelbrock Performer Series; Carb - part# 1406 and Edelbrock Thunder Series AVS; Carb -part# 1806 would be an ideal part for your 1963 Chevrolet Corvette. The difference would be with the CFM. Part# 1406 has 600 cfm while part# 1806 has 650 cfm. However, we would suggest you to get assistance from a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not (solve/be) the problem. For any further assistance, you may also call us at: 1-877-238-2623 or visit the nearest Advance Auto Parts store and one of our Parts Pros will gladly assist you with any questions or concerns you may have.
