      This generates a "gear-whine" noise.

Some folks will accuse you of having blower under the hood depending of course on what kind of vehicle it's in; example an older pick up truck with a large uncluttered engine bay will let out more engine sound than a tight ( to full to find the dip stick ) engine bay. What ever you put in will have a distinctive whine. But they do make noisy and quiet gear drives; quiet drives are actually better because they have smaller teeth and more teeth are intersecting at the same time. They usually come with a anti-friction coating to reduce wear and noise.
