  • Q:

I AM BLENDING A SMALL AREA ON MY REAR DOOR OF MY 09 TOYOTA TACOMA 4X4 DOUBLE CAB. I PRE SANDED WITH 600 WET/ DRY AND CLEANED WITH SOAP AND WATER AND PRECLEANER FOR PAINT WORK. I SPRAYED THE RED COLOR AND BLENDED AS BEST AS POSSIBLE. I AM WAITING 24 HOURS TO RUB OUT WITH AN ELECTRIC D/A AND MEGUIARS ULTIMATE COMPOUND. MY QUESTIONS ARE 1).DO I EVEN NEED CLEARCOAT? AND 2). HOW LONG TO WAX THAT AREA FOR WINTER? THIS WHOLE THING STARTED BECAUSE OF A SMALL SCRATCH THAT I TOUCHED UP WITH THE STICK AND RUBBED AND WET SANDED WITH 2000. BUT I DID IT TOO MANY TIMES AND I WORE THE CLEAR COAT DOWN TOO LOW. THANKS FOR YOURE ADVICE, JOE LAHOOD

      A:

Yes, you should use a clear coat. Not using one would leave a noticable dull spot in the paint. Also, when wet sanding make sure to use a light pressure to not burn through the clear coat.
