Comments about Driveworks Suspension Control Arm and Ball Joint Assembly:

Product Was made well, and thats not the problem. The real problem came when parts were ordered after inspecting the left hand side. Went to the online site to order. Ordered left and right wishbone style controle arms. When I started the job and pulled the Right hand side of the job down I found it took a completely different style unit than the Left hand side :( Order site might have mentioned there might be a problem in this area.

Comments about Driveworks Suspension Control Arm and Ball Joint Assembly:

Overall I am pretty satisfied with this purchase. There were a couple of inconveniences with the product. First, there was no marking of left or right on the control arm anywhere for the right side. At least the left had an L and I had my receipt to verify part number and side. Second, the zerks were different sizes for R and L. Left was a 7mm, right was a 3/8" but they both screwed in okay and took grease. The parts fit perfect otherwise and were cheap so I can't complain. FYI, on 98 mountaineer you must push the left control arm up as far as it will go to be able to get the bolts out and back in, otherwise the fuel lines are in the way. I wasted a lot of time before I figured this out.

Comments about Driveworks Suspension Control Arm and Ball Joint Assembly:

Was for my 1999 Mazda B2500. Control arm was the same size, but the "shaft" of the ball joint was too large to fit the existing hole. Plus, one control arm (replacing both sides) had a zerk fitting, but the other arm did not (no hole).

                  • Q:

I understand that this one piece control arm for upper right on 1999 Ford explorer is a replacement for the original 2 piece equipment I have now--but I also understand that I will have no camber adjustment if I use the one piece as above--what do I do to adjust the camber on alignment?

                      A:

With respect to your inquiry on the Driveworks Suspension Control Arm and Ball Joint Assembly - Part No. 520-222 you would need an adjustment kit for this one piece design, Moog Caster / Camshaft Kit - Part No. K8674 which helps with a negative 1 1/4 to 1 1/4 degrees of adjustment for your 1999 Ford Explorer. For any further assistance please feel free to call us at: 1-877-238-2623 or visit the nearest Advance Auto Parts store and one of our Parts Pros will gladly assist you with any questions or concerns you may have.

                      A:

There should only be one upper control arm on each side of the front of your vehicle. This is one of those control arms. Two would have to be purchased.

Will this control arm replace the two piece design? My 98 Explorer has the two piece control arm and I would like to replace it with this unit if possible.

The OE adjustment is for caster NOT camber. Also if your control arm bushings are fine I.E. no play in them, you should just replace with the small ball joint arm not the whole control arm (more cost effective).

I was mistaken in my other answer. Yes this will, but you won't have the camber adjustment.

                    • A:

No, this is for the left side, the two piece is on the right. The two piece is necessary for camber adjustments and is simple to replace when the ball joint boot rips.
