Overall I am pretty satisfied with this purchase. There were a couple of inconveniences with the product. First, there was no marking on the control arm anywhere for the right side. At least the left had an L and I had my receipt to verify part number and side. Second, the zerks were different sizes for R and L. Left was a 7mm, right was a 3/8" but they both screwed in okay and took grease. The parts fit perfect otherwise and were cheap so I can't complain. FYI, on 98 mountaineer you must push the left control arm up as far as it will go to be able to get the bolts out and back in, otherwise the fuel lines are in the way. I wasted a lot of time before I figured this out.

Comments about Driveworks Suspension Control Arm and Ball Joint Assembly:

I have a 95 Explorer and everything was original i got this because i went in for a alignment and was told i need just short of a new front end. This upper ball joint and arm look pretty much the same as all the ones at the other parts places but i was able to order online, picked up in store and had a promo code so i got a great deal!

First time ever installing upper ball joints and i would say it was about a 5-7 on the hard scale wasn't too bad really. How to Videos come in handy! Probably drove about 200 miles or so on it now and no problems so it's a good buy and it fits perfect!

Seems like a well made part with the exception that the Doorman control arm I received was not greasable. It did not include a zerk fitting nor was it tapped to allow me to install my own.

                              A:

It is not absolutely necessary, but many professional installers insist on replacing both even if only one is bad. This is because both have more or less the same mileage and sooner or later the other one is going to fail too. In many instances, the companion part on the opposite side is marginal, so it makes sense to replace both ball joints (uppers and/or lowers) or both tie rod ends (inner and/or outer) at the same time. It also saves from the inconvenience of having to bring the vehicle a second time. Also, If only one tie rod end or ball joint is obviously shot, but its partner on the opposite side still appears to be in good condition than there is no need to change, but before that inspection of suspension and steering components should be done properly.
For compatibility of this part with your vehicle, please provide your vehicle make, model and engine specification.

Remember we drive on the rightside of the road and parts are identified from the driver's viewport behind the wheel. Some manufacturers even mark their part numbers with even numbers on the right side and uneven numbers on the left side.
