Boot ring warps while pressing into CA

Comments about Driveworks Suspension Ball Joint:

Having to return the one I tried to install first because the large metal ring that retains the rubber boot was damaged while I was pressing the balljoint into the control arm. The ring's OD was too large, and it got pushed up around the balljoint housing as it was being pressed into the control arm. It also damaged the top edge of the boot in the process. I was replacing both upper ball joints, and I got the other one installed but had to remove the ring & boot to do so. It was a pain to reinstall cuz the retaining ring is not really made for removing and replacing; it distorts easily and damages the boot's top edge if not really careful.

Comments about Driveworks Suspension Ball Joint:

Be sure to install the grease fitting before you install the joint into the vehicle, it's easier to get at. Also, don't over tighten. Just snug it up so you don't strip it out.

Is this a upper or lower bal joint? Also what else can you use other than specialty tools to press in?

                A:

This is an upper ball joint. These play a critical role in the safe operation of the vehicle by eliminating unstable front-end suspension. So I would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis and for replacing this part.
