Comments about Driveworks Steering Tie Rod End:

I replaced both inner tie rod ends at the same time even though only the driver side had failed. The first one of these failed (became loose in the ball socket) after only 13,000 miles. The second one just ailed after only 46,000 miles. The OEM ones lasted over 200,000 miles. The four-letter named brand is still made in the US as of 2016 and are what I will buy from now on.

Comments about Driveworks Steering Tie Rod End:

I bought a pair to mate with new outer T/R ends. The parts fit perfectly but I had a similar incosistency in manufacture as noted by another reviewer. One was made more robust (closer to the Ford OEM in weight)amd with a polished shaft (vs painted on the other). I installed both without an issue (rather than try to get a matched pair). The jam nuts provided were not as robust as original - but the DW inner T/R ends included equivalent to OEM. These inner T/Rs do not include a securing pin or set screw to secure the threaded connection at the steering output shaft. But the Ford OEM parts did not either. So, I used a little Red Thread LocTite. Overall, I am pleased with these and expact to get many years of service from them. (Be sure to get your f/e alligned, too). Rgds, Coach

Comments about Driveworks Steering Tie Rod End:

I purchased this for my 2001 Mercury Sable. This tie rod fit perfectly. After installing this it had a pronounced impact on the steering. All drift and looseness was gone. I also replaced the tie rod end at the same time. I used the Drive Works brand for this as well and was equally pleased with the fit and overall quality. In comparing the Drive Works tie rod to the original Ford part, there is no visible difference between the two.

Comments about Driveworks Steering Tie Rod End:

Had one loose inner tie-rod end but decided to do both while I was at it so I ordered two of these inner tie rod ends. Both came in identically marked Drive Works boxes, but were of different design (as evidenced by different sized fastening hardware). Fortunately the loaner tool to install them had the necessary sockets to accommodate the different sized ends.

While there is no apparent quality problem with either, it is disappointing to yet again get parts that are not designed identically under the same part number from the same vendor. Always makes you wonder about the quality of one of the parts versus the other.

Got the tool to install them from Advance Auto Parts tool loaner program which is a great help and great savings versus buying such a tool for a once-in-a-lifetime type of repair.

These guys go over how to replace the inner tie rod and how to remove the outer tie rod arm. It's pretty straight forward. I'm planning on doing it myself this coming weekend. Then going in for an alignment at the nearest shop. Which is always recommended after installing any of the tie rod parts. Also, check the sway bar links, replace the plastic ones with a metal set that has zerk fittings. Apparently that's an issue with the Taurus. Hope this helps. BTW, the manual does not have ANY information on the inner tie rods, only covers the outer tie rod ends.
