Comments about Driveworks Steering Idler Arm:

This was a good replacement part for my 98 Astro. The only problem was that after I installed the part, I discovered that the hole for the cotter pin was way off. I had to mak it, remove it, drill a new hole and reinstall it, which was kind of a pain, but not impossible. Fortunately I had the tools and skill to do it. If you don't, it might be a good idea to get some help.

Comments about Driveworks Steering Idler Arm:

Reasonable enough part, fits the application. The castle nut and cotter pin does not fit when intalled on the vehicle. The hole in the shank for the pin is well above the crennelations of the nut. This is a very serious safety flaw if not corrected! It is not possible to use the original factory castle nut as the new idler arm shaft is smaller than stock. I drilled a new cotter pin hole below the factory hole and it works just fine. Do not install unless the cotter pin is through the castle nut, not sitting above it! The part works fine, but should be installed by a competent mechanic in order to make sure it is safe. Next time I will pay more for a US made part that fits without modification.

                  A:

The idler arm is one of the components of the steering linkages which is essential to the steering gear functioning properly. If the connecting ends of it are loose, then you'd have some free play in the steering and tracking of the car (ie; steering wheel moving 2 inches or more from side to side without turning the wheels at all, front end shimmy that can't be attributed to out-of-balance wheels, or lurches to the left or right when you go over a bump etc).
For compatibility of this part with your vehicle, please provide your vehicle make, model and engine specification.
For any further assistance, please feel free to call us at 1-877-238-2623 or visit your nearest Advance Auto Parts store and our representatives would be more than happy to assist you.
