Comments about Driveworks Power Steering Pump Pulley:

I had to join the advance board in order to talk about this product. I am a mechanic with over 30 years experience and work in the northeast facing the challenges of poor weather, rust etc..
I understand that vehicles are produced for nationwide use, but because the northeast is so hard on vehicles I always try to research parts for quality and durability.
I have read all the reviews and can only say that this pulley must be made to minimal specs, maybe to increase gas mileage at production time (plastic part/light weight). I say this because every other serpintine pulley component on most vehicles are made of metal, ie; cam, alternator, ac, idler, etc. So this should speak not only meechanics, but the average person.
I installed this pulley correctly with a pulley installer and it shattered after six months. It was evident from the pieces that the pulley metal press ring, was only glued and pressed into the plastic of the pulley. It separated and broke in two pieces. There was no evidence of inappropriate installation or wear.
Advance was very good to me because I have a corporate account and explained that my customer was very upset and had to be towed after the pulley shattered.
This is when I requested a METAL version which is provided by Dorman to Advance. It is twice the price, but well worth it.. The press ring is welded with a good bead to the metal portion of the pulley.
I hope this helps.. Happy motoring..

Comments about Driveworks Power Steering Pump Pulley:

This pulley sold by Advance Auto is just fine. It is a well made exact OEM replacement. The GM version is identical and made with the same materials. I have installed about ten of these from Advance, over several years, and none have proven defective in any way.
Reading the other negative reviews about this product, I must say they all seem to suggest an incorrect installation procedure............ YOU MUST REMEMBER to NEVER USE A HAMMER .or PRY-BAR of any sort when installing this or any other pulley made of a Composite material (like this one). These may ONLY be removed or installed using a specific puller that only touches the removal ring at the center of the pulley.... FYI, Advance has the correct tool available for loan. But you need to know how to use it properly. If in doubt, find someone who isn't, and who doesn't complain or make remarks about how the pulley is no good, etcetera.
It might be good to remember there are many millions of these exact same pulleys in use, and unless they get whacked and cracked, they will last for many years.

I had to buy a second one because the first one chipped along the rim of the pulley while I was trying to install it. Even the second one chipped slightly, but not enough to worry with.

Cheap plastic cracks and chips easily and is prone to failure.Consider yourself lucky if you manage to get it installed(pressed on shaft) without breaking it.

Three months ago, I installed a rebuilt power steering pump and this pulley on my 2000 Malibu. Tonight, the pulley broke into 3 pieces and threw my serpentine belt, leaving me stranded on the side of the road. Don't waste your time on this pulley.

Does this come with a install screw and nut, washer? Past purchases of pulleys came with a cheap but useable install screw. The one i just bought just had the pulley inside and box seemed it had been opened already. It's the Driveworks 300-201
