  • Q:

I have a 04 z71 flex fuel tahoe and I'm wondering if the fuel filter differs from a non flex fuel 5.3? If so I had a Firestone dealer install a new filter about 20k miles ago and the check engine light has been on ever since. A local auto parts store ran a diagnostic on the check engine light and they said it was a fuel composition sensor. Also after changing the fuel filter I had to change both catalytic converters due to engine codes. Nothing I have done thus far has improved the decline in fuel mileage I have seen which used to be 17/21 and is now 13/16 over the past 30k miles.
I have changed the fuel pump, plugs, wires, catalytic converters, had the fuel system flushed and also added a cold air intake. Any one have any advice please feel free to let me know!

It could be a number of things causing this. Unfortunately we are unable to diagnose what is wrong with your vehicle without being able to be there with your vehicle. I would suggest taking your vehicle to a certified mechanic for a proper diagnosis before buying and having parts installed that may not (solve/be) the problem.
